Do you know what happens? Does the ABS just not work as effectively or does it have an effect on overall brake function?

my understanding is that it effects everything. not sure if your familiar with the fr500c race cars but wwhen they 1st came out they had many crash because of abs problems.. change in brakes and tires under hard driving did crazy things with the abs sytem. they now run a specific abs module and hcu....... the same hcu is on the gt500 now but the module is a little different the n the fr500c but along the same lines.

you know that saying about racing to make better products? well ,perfect example.

I think I'll eventually want to step up to the GT500 HCU and ABS computer. Now I just gotta find someone who wrecked theirs...

one was listed on ebay last week from a crashed gt500 in northern ohio it was listed at 275 no reserve go no bids. search for greenleaf salvage ....they are or used to be ford direct and always had parts like that on the shelf from new ford test cars and such

Was that $275 for both the HCU and computer? If so that's not too bad...couldn't find it on eBay but found their website.

Steve I'm not to bad with acronyms being in the military but the HCU? I get the Control Unit but the H?

I have been thinking of the guys just going with larger brakes and not doing anything with the rest of the system. Is the GT500 master cyl. plunger diameter larger also? Thats great info. Thanks.

I believe it's Hydraulic Control Unit..

If you read everything in that link, it would seem that only the boosters differ between the GT/GT500/FR500. You'd think the master cylinders would be different though wouldn't you? The GT calipers must have pretty big pistons if they don't..

More? :beerdrink:

EDIT: Oh and any shots of the suspension and brake setup, especially the K-member, would be tops.

I was looking at the FRPP pdf 2009 catalog today. I saw that they had a shell with a full cage, like the FR500C, installed for ~$15,000.

Do the rules require the exhaust to be there? I would think if you end up bumping or being bumped it would get damaged. I would think the NASCAR style under the rocker would be safer but not tuneable.
Looks like your making good progress.

no, it's not mandatory. the picture you see is with all the plates on. it will probably be only 3 or 4 on it for torque reasons. Have you ever picked up nascar style boom tube exhaust? it's heavy for what it is. really heavy. The exhaust is tucked up in the rails so I could eliminate any drag from under the car.

I hate to expand the forum, but if there is a true interest in road racing, maybe we should have a drag racing suspension are and a road racing suspension area.

I'd be a supporter of this..maybe even just a general road racing/autocross/non-drag area not specific to suspension. :thumb:
