Special tool for installing Harmonic balancer?

This is the one I used to remove my crank pulley:

I used this puller with the stock bolt installed without the spacer so that the puller bolt point rested on the stock head bolt.

Then I just went to the local hardware store and got a longer bolt to install it.
You need to be very careful with the threads of the crank!!

I have never seen an install tool. I have seen the Ford one in pictures and books, but never seen one available. 99% just use a longer bolt. lol

It's an Innovators West Pulley so I will be using the other style that uses 3 bolts into the Harmonic balancer to pull it.

Going to try the bolt to put it back on.

The IW pulley should come with a bolt which is slightly longer than the factory bolt. I was able to just slap mine right on without any fuss.

I don't have the longer bolt, The pulley was installed by a shop a few years ago.
I need to remove the front cover and swap the heads and stuff.

What are cap screws? Are they just caps covering a threaded bore?

The IW pulley came with a longer bolt that is reusable; its an ARP bolt.
Oh, you are talking about the installation bolt...just take out the one thats in there and figure out the thread pitch and diameter of bolt and get one thats roughly 1 inch longer or so. All the longer bolt needs to do is seat the pulley onto the crank. Then you can use the ARP bolt to bolt it back on.

I'm going to pull it tomorrow.

The cap screws are more than likely an allen head bolt

Skwerl, how did you remove it from the crank?

The three Allen head cap screws on the front of the pulley close to the crank bolt are simply there to cover the threaded holes for your puller. Use a standard 3 bolt puller. About as simple as it gets.

Of course you remove the crank bolt and retaining washer, then put the bolt back in without the washer so you have something to push against with the puller.

For removal just use a jaw puller.

For installation I made my own balancer installation tool from an old crank bolt. I cut the head off and welded the threaded remains to a longer bolt. Works like a champ.
