Soooo.... Last night at the track on the 2 step, this happened. Pulling it now, never been inside one of these. Is it more than hand tools to replace the output shaft?

DAUMN!!

I've never done transmission work, but 6060s aren't all that expensive to get built. If you already have to get a new output shaft, it might be worth looking at a built tranny.

Yeah, I'm looking into it now, actually had this one beefed up about a year ago....guess we should have done something with the main shaft while he was in there.

Also considering a auto swap, need to investigate what's needed.

Ouch, I pulled my 6060 last week on jackstands, wasn't fun but wasn't as bad as I though it would be. Mine's getting looked at because 4th gear went bye bye lol. While I'm in there I'm doing carbon fiber rings and bronze shifter pads for the forks.

Curious about the output shaft as well. Gil_t2 iirc installed a different one on his 6060 it was better dampened and removed that less than 40mph in 4th gear racket, might be stronger too, I will look for the thread.

Here is the main site I found that has 6060 parts.

Does yours have the thin main output shaft flange like this.

Yeah, it's the bigger one, it's like a crank damper witha inner rubber fill that holds it together....mine is shredded so I'll be looking for a new one.

Gotcha, wonder if its worth upgrading mine then, mine has the thin one still in the picture above.

You might be able to have one heat treated, it's supposed to make them stronger.
I would be surprised if the transmission internals and output/input shafts weren't already heat treated to some degree.

Now cryo, that's different.

What are your thoughts on cryo treatment? I've got a lead on a 6060 with a buggered output shaft. Figured as it has to be pulled apart, if I decide to buy it, I may go cryo treating of certain parts before putting it all back together. No idea on cost and if it would be worth it though. Almost certain I wouldn't be able to get it done here in the UAE so would have to get it done in the US and shipped over.

In all fairness I won't be looking for more than 600-650 at the wheels and the stock 6060 is designed to handle that anyway. Guess it depends on the price for cryo. May well be worth it for Willy (if he decides to remain a real man and not go auto :naughty1:) depending on the price as he's pushing more power.

How many millions would that kind of swap cost?

Shouldn't be any more then doing a 4R70 swap and it's a much stronger transmission. Probably be in the $6K neighborhood but you would have a bulletproof setup and you could fix your output shaft, then sell the 6060 setup to recover some of the cost

I wouldn't recommend it for your power level. Not sure on cost but it's a bit more than heat treat because they use vacuum insulated cooling chambers instead of a furnace.

I use a company called 300 Below for my ambulance brake rotors. I get more than twice the life out of brake rotors now before they start to crack.

Thanks for that Timmbo. Lots of good info. Also found this site with some prices. Doesn't seem all that expensive. http://www.finishedracing.com/cryo_pricing.html

Thanks. Agreed it's total overkill at my power level but seems pretty cheap for someone like Willy who could have it done locally for added insurance.

Sub'ing to see where this goes. Like I said in the other thread this is the first TR6060 output shaft I've heard of snaping like that.
