OH shit, Im seriously sorry to hear this. Plus, im still using the stock oil pump. Im now even worried about mine. What kind of Crank pulley were you using? I see how this can be causing failures.

I wonder if it could be how close the crank is balanced to zero. It doesnt seem that anyone is having issues with stock motor/stock oil pump.
Possible?

Anything is possible, but I would think the reason a stock motor isn't having issues is it can't push the power a forged block can. What were you putting to the ground?

sorry to hear man....i just went thru this last month. from all the videos i have heard, they all pretty much sound the same. i had a bent rod contacting the crank on each revolution. ill post the video for you to hear what that sounded like. from what i have heard the #8 rod is usually the first to go ,i guess it gets less oil pressure than all the others.

sounds alot like th cam phaser noise but i was not that lucky. the sound was loudest from the hole under the transmission where the clutch dust is vented.

IMO the oil pump problems come from the crank not being balanced correctly, or should I say close enough to zero.
Livernois using IW pulleys and they have no problem with stock pumps. And Livernois balances there assembles down to tenths of a gram.

Ron,

I would take the front cover off and inspect the oil pump. The front cover is simple to remove and fairly quick with a super charger. When I lost my pump last year it was similar to what your describing. If it is the pump and you shut it off quick enough pull a couple of bearing caps to see if they survived. If they look good go with a stock pump with billet gears. Also cut your oil filter open to inspect for metal shavings as a precaution if the bearings look good.

Sorry to hear Ron, you have my sympathy and my worries as I am running a Larry H. Stroker motor. Dont part with it, follow the members wise words have a beer or thirty and see what is wrong. Stand up applause for Kevin @ PMP for offering his help, he has spent hours of his time on the phone offering me information just because he is that generous. Best of luck to you man.

Thats just amazing that it could still run like that. You have way more guts then I do revving it while it was making that sound.

Zman, I don't see how it could be related, I will die if it is!

I won't die but I'm worried about it.

I don't mean to sound stupid posting this BUT.... 5qts in a deep sump sounds like an issue? Lack of oil?

Montreal Qc,
Hey Ron,

Sorry I missed your call bud.
The first thing I would do is pull the pan off.
At this point you know that the front cover will need to be removed to replace the pump but it's the rest of the damage you want to inspect.
If there is no metal in the pan and the bearings are ok then I would say that the clacking is from the chain tensioners losing pressure.
You would need to get Kevins pre-lube pump before you start it back up with a new oil pump.

I've got to run but I'll talk to you soon.
