Trade for a Shelby?

I know they can go fast, and should go fast, I just haven't personally seen one go fast at a track, or a few I've dealt with on the street. Hard to respect when that is what you see / experience, but I have seen a couple put decent numbers down on a dyno

I'm in Billings and a GT500 is a rare site at YDS. Not seen a 13/14 yet though I do know someone that owns one here. 03/04 cobras even rarer. Actually not that many modded LMY cars in general out there. I know 3 people including myself with a coyote and of the 3 the fastest is a stall'd jpc paxton setup that went 10.7. No built cars at all. One vortech, one paxton, and a TVS setup all on stock long blocks.

My vote for you getting rid of your coyote for a gt500 is "no". This is coming from a guy who likes to go fast in a straight line on a budget, turns his own wrenches, and not being into showboating "money spent" with terms like Viper, Vette, SRT8, and "I hate to say it" but GT500 too as well, Pay yours off, "if you haven't already", and enjoy that sucker imo.

Other guys, please remember how much of a "troll" I am, and have a good, safe holiday season!

From his posts, looks like no. He has a coyote, lightning, and fox that are all faster than GT500's though.

Nice, there was actually a "ton" of the older GT500's here for a while, per capita as I live among streets filled with lifted diesels here in Wyoming. Glad to see there's some quick Coyotes in your neck of the woods!

So far, every thread he's posted in, turns into an argument....

For every argument I'm involved in, there's always a "common denominator", figure that one out. Again, I'm not saying GT500's are junk or slow, but for what I do with cars, a Coyote makes a lot more sense, that's all. I know they can run hard, but me living in Wyoming hasn't exposed me to any of the quick ones? I'm only saying what I've experienced guys, and I guess I'm sorry for that? I'm also sorry if you think the hell-cat, and new Vette, I witnessed shoulda ran quicker, but it simply didn't.

I'm kind of surprised I didn't find a thread on this. Maybe I'm stupid for contemplating but, have any of you Coyote owners contemplated trading for an '07-'09 GT500?

I've seen a few trade for a '10-'12+ GT500, but not an '07-'09.

This is not serious thought in the sense that even if the right one came along I wouldn't be ready to jump on it, but I am curious to see what thoughts you guys would have.

Just a passing thought for the moment.

funny.. seen plenty of Shelby's go 9s..... in the 1/4! before I got mine, the prior owner ran 9.6 in it....

That's impressive to say the least, cars like yours just don't pop up around here I suppose.

I haven't driven one, I've ridden in an 09 with a few mods, pulley, tune, etc. It Ran good for what it was.

Lightning was traded in for the 2012 5.0, still have the fox but I'm trying to sell to afford parts on the new one. I've only actually raced 2 GT500s. One was in my Old 04 Cobra I used to have, and the other is one I messed with here in town with my Lightning a few days before I traded it in on the 2012 Mustang I have now. And since you guys will probably call bs on that, I won't tell you how it turned out with either race. I will say the last one I encountered with my Lightning was a 2013 or newer one. All the rest are ones I've seen run at the same tracks I've ran at, and you could see what they where running.

Guys please don't put words in my mouth. When I mention the ones I've seen run, it means exactly that, "the ones I've seen run" not "any". Obviously they can be made to run good, but I think many people think that big hp#'s automatically mean quick times at the track. I also have a Modded C63 AMG that I haven't mentioned while you guys are assuming you know me and my vehicles, That I won't comment on unless asked about.

This is a good article I've read about how hard a coyote can run with very few mods, but in the right places. This takes absolutely nothing away from gt500's, but certainly puts the spotlight on coyotes for me, however. excellent read, none-the-less.

OK, sorry. GT500's are the quickest, baddest cars in the world. I hope I, or anyone else never has to line up against one. The op should surely go out and trade in his nice 5.0 for one immediately, so all of his troubles will be over. Everything I've said so far on this thread is completely made up, and hopefully hasn't dethroned GT500's in any way.

FWIW the GT500 was built under license from Shelby at Ford. If you buy one the 07 had a clutch/transmission issue that would make a 1-2 shift difficult. The input shaft was just a tad oversize.

If you really want an early body style and can get a deal on one then do it. They have a whole lot of potential. As a stock vehicle they are somewhat tame by todays standards. Slap a 2.3 tvs or 2.9 Whipple on and you will have a beast.

Do you not like the Coyote? If you really like what you have then keep it. You can push the GT500 to a little over 700rwhp before the rods start to fail. IIRC the coyote is good for around 600 before the same thing happens in stock form. The TR-6060 is a very good transmission so that's a big plus for the GT500. It should take anything you can throw at it and it shifts very nicely due to the big gears and triple syncros.

At some point in the future the GT500 will command a premium just because of the name. How long that will take is a guess but I'm quite certain that some of us will have conversations that go like this: I could of bought a GT500 for $25,000 back in 201x, now they go for $1xx,xxx. It will happen but it might take 30 years.

I really didn't realize your goals for the car in my earlier posts to this thread. Now that you mentioned them, you may love owning a GT500. I tend to assume everyone has the same goals with cars that I have. The bottom line is that GT500's are very nice, exclusive, and powerful outa the box cars. I'd love to own one, but I'd hate to pay for one, as I'd spend way too much modding one, and then turn around and beat the snot out of a very nice, exclusive car at the track, so they're not a good fit for myself. On another note, although I certainly like the heck outa these Coyote Stangs, they certainly aren't exclusive at all, I'm surprised My dad, and neighbors don't have one, hahaha.

I never once said "they can not be made fast". I said the ones I've seen run, and the ones I've raced haven't been anything special whatsoever compared to any other cars roaming the streets. Sorry, no tongue holding here Champ.
