Does top end spark timing effect idle?

Hi guys...I have a mail order Brenspeed 93 octane with 10% ethanol tune in my 06. The car was running great for the past 2+ years with that tune but about a year ago NJ changed their fuel formulations.

One by one, various brands switched over and would ping slightly from 4000+ rpm at WOT. Shell was working great for me but they now reformulated a month ago or so and it too now pings. A bit of 100 octane unleaded generally fixes the problem.

Using the xcal 2, I pulled 2 degrees of timing from the 4000-8000 rpm group in the user defined settings.

The ping is gone on the 93, but now occasionally, the idle drops to about 450-500 and hunts for a bit before settling it. The overall idle seems to have dropped too.

I am going to flash it back to the std 93 tune, but would changing spark up top in the xcal effect idle?

Thanks
Nick
