Question, had both heads cams wipe the journals out making them junk unless I want to custom install bearings, which is actually a great solution should you tie up a bunch of money in the head and the journals gets scored again making your ported heads worthless.

Here is my question, LKQ has a core charge for mine of $450 for the long block....I am thinking about keeping it. The block is fine, heads are repairable should I want to tie up a bunch of money in cams and porting....I am thinking the bare block alone is worth $400.

Do you think I should keep engine? I am am not schooled on 4.6 3v alum block prices....

Thanks guys.

Keep it! You never know if you might need it some day, or you can definitely sell the parts for much more if you decide to go that route.

Oh wow, thanks guys. I had no idea. I really like the idea of tearing down the original and slowly building it in no rush as I enjoy my Bullitt. Plan is to put new /slightly beefed springs and a set of mild springs required cams. I love high revving v8's and might sell the collected DOB parts to fund that. Would like to shoot for 7200 to 7500 reliably. Think that is possible with correct springs, cam, new tensioners, lash adjusters and rollers? New 2010 motor will have 80 k on it.

I sold my stock 3v alum shortblock for $450. I see used heads for $200 /pair

Sure I spin mine to 7200+ no problem, I'm just running the FRPP valve train parts nothing fancy.

Cool, thanks for the info. What specific FRPP parts are those? I am going to need a camshaft to help the power and torque from rolling off early. Thinking about the comp VSR stage.2

Last adjusters, followers and cam drive kit. My cams are L&M custom grinds. You'll need a good intake to spin higher rpm's too.

Thanks, lots of talk about the frpp timing kit but I actually saw kits that came with non roller chains.....also isn't the factory chain set supposed to be super strong and good?

What do you mean by cam drive kit? New set phasers ? Or the Frpp timing kit?

I've only ever ran FRPP timing components including the timing chains, phasers, guides and oem tensioners.
MAN, you are amping me up. FRPP timing kit it is.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to sell all the parts I have collected for a DOB kit.

Hp is not my #1 priority. I am all about the package hotrod you want beat the shit out of and give you that sweet feedback, it, It took 3 iterations of exhaust to get that unmatched Ford mod motor scream. I can't wait to hear it spin higher! Mid mounts are the ticket.

Fyi. No cat x pipe, 2 cheap MBRP flow through for a diesel mid mounted, and pypes bomb style to finish it off. No drone and not too loud......but then again hp adds decibles. I didn't have much hp

neat, I'll watch for the sale. I like M122's, I think one would be a good match for the 5.0 truck motor pie in the sky dream I have. DOB duderino said should be in the 600 range, the lower CR would help a little bit.
