275/40 - 18 Tires

Looking to see whats the best tire options in size 275/40-18 for a daily, looking to spend between $200-270 per tire, any suggestions?

Try Mickey Thompson Street Comps, I've got 275/35/20 and liking them a lot and they were only $189 thru Summit Racing... w/free shipping...

I see they are $199 now for my size.... guess I got em' at the right time... same price thru American Muscle...

I recently put Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's on my car and they are one of the best value/perfromers I've run. To say I am very pleased is an understatement.

I guess I should update my tire post - I second the FFI500, Ive got over a thousand miles on my new ish set and love them. 1 hour freeway commute home through monsoon rains last week, 85mph the whole way, never felt more sure-footed.

Caveat, summer only tire, no cold weather rating on them.

I recently put Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's on my car and they are one of the best value/perfromers I've run. To say I am very pleased is an understatement.

How good is the rim protection on the Indy 500's? Someone from another forum who has them claims they provide very little rim protection when compared to Michelin Pilot Super Sports and Continental Extreme Contact Sport. However, If they provide just as much protection? Then I'll end up purchasing the Indy 500's for my car.

For a daily all around summer tire it's hard to beat the Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

From the reviews, I've read about the Firestones, they perform nearly just as well as the MPSS, but are more than half the cost less. IMHO the Indy 500's are a real bargain and hard to beat at their price range.

Best tire I think I 've ever had is the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx, but they are about $350ea. Great ride and quiet on the road. If money is no option buy them...

I know Firestone is good if you ever have a problem with their tires, I had a couple on recall back a few years ago and they were great about replacing them.

I've had the Mickey Thompson's now for a bit and I can say they are not quite as quiet, but give a good ride and they are Unidirectional so you can rotate them if you don't stagger your sizes. True test will be on the track with em' in a couple weeks, I'll post more of what I think about them then.

Not sure how the rim protection compares to the Michelin Pilot Super Sports and Continental Extreme Contact Sport. It will depend on what rim you put it on and how much they are or aren't stretched. I tend to avoid running my wheels into curbs so I don't focus on that. The 275 seem to have pretty decent protection on a 9" rim.

I have been exremely pleased with them. Had to run trough another pretty decent rainstorm this week and they didn't falter a bit. The more I run them the more I like them. And I drive the heck out of my car.

I'll be running 275/40/18" on "OEM" 08 GT500 18x9.5" rims. I also tend to avoid running my wheels into curbs as well, however knowing there's sufficient rim protection does provide an additional piece of mind in the unlikely event that it could happen, depending on the situation and particular area I may end up in? Anyhow, just saying hypothetically.

I was very close to buying the Indy 500s. They offer ton of ban for the buck. If you read on them there a Bridgestone high performance tire sold in Japan. They relabeled them as Firestone in the US and dropped the price to try bring more people back into the Firestone brand.

However I have owned several Michelin tires over the years and all have been fantastic from truck tires, all seasons, and summer only performance. I use to have the pilot sports, great tire. However, I just went to the new Michelin 4s and the 4s is a far superior tire to the pilot sports. The 4s has better cooler day grip and there not even in the same category when comes to wet grip. The 4s grabs very well in wet conditions

Put 275/40 18 Indy 500s on my Roush S3. Great tires. Only paid $90. per tire shipped. Put an early pre production order in for the tires with Firestone. Just had to wait 7 months for them to be available. Did not get charged until they shipped.

I wonder what the Bridgestone model is, that's sold in Japan? And why doesn't Bridgestone just sell it in North America ? Why the smoke and mirrors routine ? Sure it may well help Firestone out of their funk, and provide the illusion that Firestone..."makes good tires".... but it will only harm Bridgestone in both the short...and long run.

The Firehawk Indy 500 is the Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003. As to why Bridgestone doesn't sell the Potenza RE003 here in North America? is more than likely to help their Firestone brand out of their funk as you posted. However, I don't see how helping a subsidiary within their own company would possibly harm Bridgestone in any way. Apparently, the Potenza RE003 seems to be doing well enough in sales in Japan, Australia, and Europe. Therefore if the rebranded Potenza RE003 continues to do well in sales here in North America as the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500? this will only help Bridgestone in both the short and long run rather than harm them IMHO.

IIRC, Bridgestone acquired Firestone not long after the Ford Explorer disaster took place which pretty much finished Firestone as a tire company following the wrongful death lawsuits against them. But since then, they've been a really great quality tire and IMO you just can't go wrong with the Indy 500's as it's just like you said, they're the best bang for your buck without a doubt

I've had Toyo Proyes, Mickey Thompson Street Comps and Nitto 555s on my Mustang. None of those come close to the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3's (all season!) I have now for wet and DRY traction even in the summer on hot dry pavement. If you drive your Mustang year round and want something that hooks up when you get on it, this is a great choice.

Nitto 555 G2 are a great tire, and are within your budget.
