Where to begin with this build. I have been a long time member here. I have been fortunate enough to have owned two 2007 GTs and one 2011 GT. All of these cars have given me great experience with building them and keeping fun in the car community. Recently I found out that I am having my first child and sold my 2011 to unload a extra payment I did not need. I did not have to get rid of it but I felt the extra money could help with changing my office into a nursery and helping my wife during here leave from work. Speaking of my wife, she has owned her 2005 Mustang V6 since new in 05. Over the past two, three years. It has just sat in our driveway collecting dust. I bought her a 2015 Jeep Wrangler back in 2015 and the mustang has not been touched since really.

So fast forward to now and she told me since I had gotten rid of my mustang I could use hers to do what ever I wanted to with. I like having projects and keeping myself busy when I am not working. So first things first. We are starting with a base v6 with no real upgrades. It has a Roush kit on minus the rear bumper. Cervinis cobra r hood. 20 inch bullet wheels and eibach lowering springs. Everything else is bone stock. First thing to go is the heavy ass chrome wheels. I replaced them with Velgen 20x10.5 VMB8 wheels. I like the concave design and lighter weight versus the chrome bullets. Then I decided to put a GT500 spoiler on it. The car has not a wing on it since new. I hated the factory wings on them.

Next up I will taking the old suspension off the car and replacing it all with Air Lift Performance bags. BMR lower control arms and BMR Pan Hard bar. I am still awaiting the rest of the parts to come in. The interior is one hot mess. The steering wheel is beyond boring and is being replaced with the Sparco Ford Racing steering wheel. The door panels are gonna have to be completely redone. I may look into swapping them with 11+ door panels. The leather seats have seen better days so I will be looking at something else to replace them with.

Over the next few months I will be adding more to the car. I am in search of a 05 GT that has been wrecked and swap it over to a 3 valve and change out the old 7.5 to the 8.8. No huge rush on it since I have plenty of time to work on it and its not my daily driver. I wanted to actually keep track of a build for once so I decided to do this post. Thank you all for following along and if you have any pointers or tips please feel free to let me know. 3 Valve! Put an LS or a DOHC 5.0 in that thing. At least a 5.4. :)

If my budget would allow for a coyote swap I would but a simple good ol' 3 valve will be good. If I do run across a full coyote car I will snatch it up.

It will still be good. Stuff some hot rod cams in there. Time was they'd sell in an afternoon for a high price. Now I bet there are 2, 3 pair in the classifieds for $150.

I ran BBR cams in one of my 07s and I would think a pair of Hot Rod cams in this one would be nice. It is not going be a track car. Just a weekend cruiser that will look good, sound good and snap a few necks. Plus keep it containable so the wife can still drive it if she so pleases too.

The Hot Rod cams sound great, probably my favorite mod I’ve done!

Finally got the air bags on the car. Put new BMR lower control arms on the car. The old factory ones were shot. So far no leaks and I have not taken it on its maiden journey since I still have to mount the tank and two compressors. Once that is done I will take it around town to see how she rides now. Next up will be the Roush rear kit to be painted and installed. Exhaust will change as well. Interior is slowly getting carbon fiber wrapped. Its gotten to cold to do it now so I will have to wait until spring so the film is not so brittle. But the radio bezel turned out pretty good for my first time.

I suggest you look for a wrecked '11-'14 GT and swap everything out of it into your 2005 V6 leaving only the bodyshell to sell for scrap. Once the swap's complete, you can sell most the V6 parts to recoup some money and scrap those that aren't worth anything.

I am hoping in the future to find a great deal on a wrecked 5.0 car. I am in no rush right now to do it. With my first born on the way I am waiting to get her here and then start this project with the motor swap but I do want another 5.0 car. My 11 was a blast. But for now I am just getting it back road worthy and back to looking good. It snaps necks when rolling even if it is quieter than a church mouse.

Nice project and great way to keep "scratching that itch" while enjoying fatherhood. Keep up the awesome upgrades!

Where? I have never seen cams go that cheap. Certainly don't appear to be in the classifieds here...

Small update. Finally got the Roush rear end put on. Do not mind the crooked exhaust. I am still needing to install the new over axle pipes. The driver side muffler is just hanging there. IMG_0438.jpg
