Lifting at high speed

This interests me. My car at any speed over eighty gets squirrelly and tracks right. Freeways make me pucker. Hard launch from a standing start it's straight until eighty. Makes me wonder if I may need some aero aid. I pulled the rock guard to replace it and looked, everything is awesome suspension wise. So I wondered if it was just lift. Only damage at all was to my block heater extension.

For what it’s worth, the 1st gen SuperSnake or KR used the V-6 rear spoiler because in testing Shelby discovered it generated more downforce than either the GT500 or Mustang pedestal spoiler.
It was stated on their Shelby Store website several years ago.
Go figure lol

I like how I redesigned and built a front spoiler for my '08, to find Ford did it in 2010. I guess I was on the right track. Going to add that rear piece!

I doubt that's an aero issue. I'd be looking at tires or triple checking alignment. That's a really "low" speed to be feeling squirrelly. It could also be a hub bearing issue. But 80 around here is freeway speed. Never had an issue with our 06 feeling unstable at that speed.

Correction, the car does not feel unstable at any speed. My hood moves and I am afraid that it will give up at high speed without the hood pins. The hood starts to lift/move at 70, not the car. I didn't know that it should have a lower cover because when I bought it, it had been removed. It has vents in it and I think that is the only thing keeping it together now. I'm not confident in carbon fiber. It is not as strong as I thought it would be.

Did you mean to quote me? Because my response was for another member. I think you might have selected the wrong post.

Other than a splitter on the front, what other possible options do you have? Splitters are not adjustable in front to back length, and some folks have made em too long. Ideally, you would then need an adjustable wing or similar on the back end, to complete the delicate balancing act. A buddy who tracks his car, added hood vents (heating issue)....and said the front end felt more planted / less lift. But your GT-500 already has hood vents. On the 2012 GT-500, ford changed something in the front end, which supposedly resulted in slightly more down force, and I forget what they did.

I'll take a look more at the 2012 nose. I swapped out the actual plastic hoot vents for more open aluminum ones from TrueForged when they still made them. I've also removed the rubber strip from the underside of the back of the hood to let the air pass through and out at the bottom of the windshield. Those were done more to get heat out of the engine when I ran a pulley but stuck with them after I put in the Ford Racing 2.9 supercharger kit. I didn't give a lot of thought to the areo part of those changes more than getting heat out.

Has anyone have experience with the Steeda CDC front splitter and their functional race wing for 05-09? These are what the SCCA spec mustangs have I believe.
I contacted Steeda about data on the rear wing. They said SCCA developed it with Embry-Riddle and data were kept confidential... something like that. It sits tall and is non adjustable, but my guess is it will be functional, just not sure how much

The hood lifting is a pretty common problem. The stock hood was pretty notorious for scaring people like that. You can either get some hood pins or try raising the little bump stops for the hood so it is a little tighter. You definitely want that under bumper splash guard thingy. One it keeps the air flow with the radiator consistent bu will prevent some of the pressure building under the hood.

I'm driving in Germany above 100 mph very often and I think that the front end is lifting. Its a 2007 with no engine underbelly and from 100 the steering resistence is almost zero on such speed.

I already installed 2013 sway bars which made the car much more stable and quite (bigger front sway bar bushings). I will install an 2011 rear upper control arm which is longer to reduce weight transfer and try to find some solution for an engine undertray. I hope this will help.
I like the new GT500 hood pins but when I think to cut giant holes ......

After I added the 2010 belly pan (just the pan with the louvers) the car feels less "floaty" at high speeds.

I must do some home build belly pan solution. Shipping costs to Germany are very high for such parts. Doesn't make sense to pay 100$ for shipping and to pay tariff and tax on tariff for the shipping costs. Will never understand this, except ripping off people.

Where are you in Germany? I might be able to help if you are close to Kaiserslautern.

I use WMS stealth hood pins. They go on the underside of the hood. No big holes.

I would guess 5h driving distance, so not close. I already made a cardboard template but don't know how to attach it. Square rivet nuts would be nice, no idea where to get them. I think the material below the engine should be ABS 5mm thick? And it should be two sheets, one from the k-member to the radiator support and one attached to the bumper alone, similar to the Laguna Seca Boss splitter.

I think the WMS pins are not avaliable anymore?

Well that's a bummer...
The WMS pins work great once you get them all aligned. Must cost to much to make these days. I did buy them almost 10 years ago

The plastic would have to be pretty thick and flexible. Lots of downforce created in that area. I tried to fabricate one but didn't have much luck because my air cooler sits a little low. I ended up ordering a new one from rockauto for like 30$ and modified it a little. It does help with the downforce. I don't have any lifting issues even past 150 mph (some hood shake at that speed).

You got the 2010 underbelly from Rockauto? I calculated the costs with tascaparts and it was too expensive.
Thanks for the info!
