I got the 6disc nav radio from an 08 CS in my 09 GT. The nav works fine and all but no Bluetooth and it’s kind of dated. clutchfield has a bunch and many aftermarket companies I’m not Familiar with. So I’m interested in what some other people have and their experience, that have of course invested in Bluetooth nav for their 2005-2009 mustangs

Always been a fan of Pioneer or Kenwood can’t go wrong with either. Check out Sonic electronics or Crutchfield

Funny you should mention this. I have been planning on ungrading mine as well. Got ask your self "what do you want"?
Nav, back, satellite, bluetooth, apps? Also I kind of wanted a some what factory look. Matte screens sre better for sun glair vs gloss. I got as far as that looking at all there options and back burnered it. Lol. Crunchfeild has a lot of options.

+1 for Crutchfield/Kenwood. I bought a head unit for crazy cheap from them and then their site gives you a list of parts needed for the install which is nice. I got a super basic head unit which in hindsight I should have paid a little more but I’m cheap.

+1 on Crutchfield. I put in a Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX because I wanted wireless CarPlay. It is WAY better than the old Pioneer AVIC unit I had. Also it is lighter and about 1/2 the size depth wise. Wish I would have done that earlier.

The speed from starting the car to connecting to the phone and playing is less than 10 seconds. My friend says it's faster than sync 3 in his new Mustang and his isn't wireless. Also from Crutchfield you get the complete wiring diagram and everything you need. I have the Shaker 1000 in mine and it all works seamlessly. Paid more than I wanted but I am more than happy with it.

Here is the depth different between my old AVIC710 and the new unit. Then one with it in the carIMG_0459.jpegIMG_0461.jpeg

Wow, ditching the CD player really saves space.

I've got the AVH4400NEX (older version the 4500NEX but it's basically the same thing) in my truck which has been a great all around radio. The android auto's so convenient and unlike some of the 'smart' features on my old AVH3700BET, everything just works and works together.

I see on Crutchfield's site your 4660 is the replacement for the 4500... makes me wonder if once the 4500's discontinued if the only way to get a CD/DVD player is to go with something more $$$ like the 8600. It's a shame, I don't listen to CD's a lot but it's nice to have when you need it. And the 4400/4500 has an SD card behind the screen you can put your MP3's on so you don't have to use whatever library's on your phone. Looks like the 4660 only has a rear USB (4400 has a rear USB too, but I use it for wired android auto if the wireless is acting up).

I went with the Navos Pro 7 touch-screen system that includes GPS and Apple CarPlay. You can also add an inexpensive generic backup camera. The bonus is that it looks stock! It runs about $800 so it’s a little pricey, but it comes with all the ready made wire harnesses so it’s plug-n-play! [emoji41][emoji1360] Only took a couple of hours to install and it sounds great in my 2013 GT Premium Convertible.

I have the shaker 500 and I’m curious if it would be plug and play as well. I know the door subs are a weird ohm. Did yours maintain the same loudness after installing the new head unit?

OP

I highly recommend changing front and rear speakers when changing the head unit. The subs are fine unless you really want a lot of bass.
These are the speakers I have and can’t say enough about them. I listened to several and to my ear these, for the money are awesome! They are extremely efficient so the head unit will easily power them.

Good advice. No one wants to spend the money but redoing the whole system might be needed. s197 are getting old more I think about it total over haul might be needed. Great head deck you guys mentioned. Grabbing after I finish my new tune. How about the Trunk for the shaker 1000 owners. Any suggestions

I went through this a year and half ago. I have a 2008 and it had the six disk and the navigation system. The navigation was out of date and the screen was scratched and dull, CD player ate the first disk I put in. So, started researching and went to local radio installer for advise. I went with the Kenwood DNR876S and the Garmin Navigation. Additionally I did have a back up camera installed. Although, it wasn't one of my needs the Kenwood came with a phone system and I do use it. The Garmin also has a number of things I wasn't looking for, elevations, road trips, gas mileage, etc.

I have the Shaker 500 speakers and they have worked fine with the radio and CD player. I did not go with a six CD player and haven't found it to be a problem. The backup camera came with quartz lighting so at night you can see great, daytime not as good and if the sun is behind you, worthless.

I'm over 82 so we could blame this on age but I'm pretty good with computers, etc. One mistake I made the Kenwood offered a moveable screen (up & down) that would have helped with the glare problem. (my 08 is a convertible so others may not have the problem)I find the Kenwood overly complicated, that is, sometimes instead of just one step to affect a change it requires several.

Hope this is some help.

If you wanna sell the old radio my cd player portion just died, in a mood to just swap in an identical replacement. Let me know

I replaced the head unit in my 07GT after getting done replacing the entire worn out suspension. I choose the Pioneer AVH6500NEX it come with tons of features and options. But I love the Nav and the handsfree Apple carplay. I love that as soon as I get in the car and turn the key it connects all by itself to my phone and plays my playlist

I installed the Dynavin n7 pro that's an exact clone of your Navos in my 14 GT convertible. It was a little cheaper than the Navos that I saw on AM. I am really happy with it and I had the Shaker 500 with Nav. and there was no problem making it work.

Yeah, I m pretty sure I had the Shaker 500 in my 13 GT Premium as there’s no sub in the trunk. It seemed to sound better after installing the N7 Pro due to the Equalizer and other boost settings. I bought mine directly from the manufacturer and it was cheaper than AM as well. I did not previously have the Nav system so this was really an upgrade to get the larger screen and have it be touch-capable. I also didn’t have a backup cam capability and I added that as well. Crystal clear picture.

I have an android HU in my van. My biggest complaint is the lack of access to functions/settings like I have access to on my android phone. Why they have to neuter the OS on the HU?

I have the shaker 1000. Crutchfield has the wiring kit to do everything. Loudness level, I have not noticed a difference but I've had the AVIC700BT in the car since '09. At some point I'll put aftermarket speakers in, the stock ones are still going.
