ABS module problems

I have an '07 GT with ABS and Traction Control problems. Took it to get it inspected and although there's no problem with the brakes other than the lights on, they can't pass it. They say that the problem is the ABS module. Does anyone know where to get this part? The mechanic says that it can be sent off and rebuilt. Is that the only option? Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,
Todd

Hard to say without the actual fault code. ABS modules do fail, and set those lights on your dash. I have replaced a few myself. Regular brake fluid flushes help extend the life of the abs, but wont prevent it.

Go to Ebay and get a OBDII, ABS scanner. Under $20. Once you have the codes, you will know what's wrong. Some Autozones will scan for ABS codes for free.

Codes were DTCS P1703 and U1900. The mechanic's notes said that they found an open circuit in the ABS module, no communication with the diagnostic scanner or ECM, needs to have ABS module replaced.

The P1703 is a brake switch code. The signal is either to high or too low. The U1900 is a communication code. This is often a false code. It can happen if the scanner is attached when the key is in the “on” position instead of “off”. I had the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago.
Before replacing the ABS, get a second opinion.

^^ This.
U codes can safely be ignored. Since the code could be scanned, module communication works.
Would not hurt to check fuses*

the first time my 05 threw a light at me I thought it might be a sensor all mucked up. When I went to see about cleaning them the first one I checked had no bolt in it and the sensor had slid out I replaced the bolt, the light went out. The next time it was a bad wire going to the left rear, I spliced the wire the light went out. Before you do a bunch of buying and replacing the module check and clean the sensors.

RIP - You will be missed
Very common for 05-14 to damage the wiring going to right rear. The exhaust pipe burns it.
Interesting. Hadn't heard that before and I'm wondering if that's why I got an ABS light at two of the last three track days where wires and things might be moving around a bit more.

Well guys, after pulling my hair out, panicking about the lack of availability of OEM modules from Ford or aftermarket modules from anyone and calling junkyard websites across the country, I took the car to another shop and they located a loose ground wire that grounded the ABS module. What really brought this to a head was getting cut off by a jerk driving a big diesel truck pulling a trailer causing me to brake hard and lock up. Barely avoided a big mess. Thanks for all the advice, guys.

Was the ground wire the one under the airbox on the driver's side?

They didn't say other than it was one that grounded the module which is right there next to it, so that may be the one.

I had an intermittent ABS alarm on my '06 GT. I removed the ABS module and re-soldered the heavy solder joints. Has worked like a champ for about 18 months now. I can offer more help if you want to go that route.

I wonder if I am experiencing the same
Issue. My 06 was in an accident and the ABS module was damaged. I replaced it twice and I still can’t get the module to cycle even with a scan tool. It can’t communicate. I checked the wiring and it all seems fine. Is this something the dealer needs to do? I have checked everything that could possibly cause this module NOT to work. Where is this ground or is there a wiring diagram that I can make sure the wire is grounded even if I pigtail onto it directly to a ground spot. I checked the ground under the air box and it seems solid, even cleaned off the paint. OR maybe I am looking at the wrong ground?
