Can I put my new 4.10 rear axle housing onto a new 5.0?

Just curious. I just bought a newtakeoff 4.10 axle assembly, and am curious if I'll be able to move that over to a 2011. If I can, the likelyhood that I'll get a 2011 will increase. If not, I'll probably just keep the 07, because I have a lot of cool mods already that I know will not transfer.

An '11 is going to be damn near undriveable with 4.10s in it with anything less than drag slicks. 4.10s in an '11 is going to be the equivalent of 4.51s in the '05-'09... then there is almost 200lb/ft more of torque to deal with.

You have to think the 5.0's have a six speed tranny. I think that if you are going to keep it a bolt on car, go for it! If nitrous or a blower are going to go on it, then 3.73 or 3.55 depending on hp levels. 5.0's with weight reduction, big n littles, and a gear, and a tune will probably be high 11's.

The max. speed you could achieve in each gear would be:
1st 37 mph
2nd 59 mph
3rd 79 mph
4th 101 mph
5th 134 mph

Even with a stock car, you'd be crossing the traps in 5th and up shifting every 20 mph or so. It would just be annoying and not make you any faster.

On the street though, might be a bit steep, but it rev's to 7k so there's some RPM to play with.

I've been running 4.10s with a twin screw for 4 years. I can assure you that my car has a shitload more torque than a N/A 5.0 will have. And while it's certainly drivable on street tires, I prefer drag radials for daily use. Much more predictable.

You would have an equivalent to 4.72s out back for an 05-09. Your car will have a top speed, in 6th, of like 23 mph. Of course that's not true, but you get the point. It would be ridiculous. You'd have to buy new tires every 500 miles...

Yeah, I meant 70... I'm really not sure where I got 200 from. I think I was comparing it to my SHO (which has 200lb/ft of torque).

What size tire is that with? To me it seems like if 5th in these things is the 1:1 gear then you would be wanting to trap as high in 5th as possible, so as long as you're not trapping above 135 4.10's would be just fine.

My thoughts as well. I don't think 4.10s are going to be that bad. Sure the trans is geared deeper but the engine also revs higher. I still think it'll be a nice combo.

That's a huge gap between the first and second gear ratio.

Every ones got an opinion but I would gear it to trap in 4th.
That means 3.55 or 3.73 depending on density altitude.

If you gear it to trap in 5th you need either 4.56 or 4.88.
2nd is 2.43 which is the same as 1st in a Top Loader 4-speed.
If you gear it this way I would not be suprised if the car is quicker launching in 2nd.
1-2 shifts at 45' are awful early.

3.66 x 4.88 = 17.86
Thats the same as a 5.28 in a 2010.

PS I ordered my car with 3.55 since I run at a DA well below sea level in the winter.
