So I’m planning on overhauling the tired drivetrain in my 200k+ mile ‘07 and I’m having a hard time deciding what route to take when it comes to the transmission.

I’m between 3 options, another TR3650, a TR6060, or a T56 Magnum. Nowadays, it’s pretty tough to find either of these used in general, let alone in good condition and I’m trying to be as cost effective as possible. The T56 is the only one that can still be bought new but I’d like to avoid spending $5k on just the transmission if I can.

TR3650’s are tough to find in good condition and even if they are, it’s still a crappy transmission and I would like an upgrade. The TR6060 seems like a pretty common swap that people have lots of good things to say about it. To my knowledge, in order for it to be a direct swap it would have to be one out of an 07-14 GT500 which again, is pretty tough to find. The T56 is also promising but the Magnum XL is the only one that’s a direct swap and the most expensive option, also impossible to find unless new. I’ve seen bell housing adapters that allow you to bolt up any T56 magnum to the mod motors but haven’t heard much about them. This would probably be the easiest option since there’s plenty of T56 magnums in my area from different cars.

I’m aware I would have to get a different clutch, driveshaft, wiring etc. to run the 6060 and T56 which is already in the plans but I need to decide on a transmission before I order anything so I can get the right parts. If anyone has any info on the bell housing adapters, other things I need/missed, or any insight maybe it would ease my mind a bit and help my indecisive self decide on a transmission lol. Also if anybody is selling any transmissions feel free to post those as well.

Contact this guy, he might be able to help you, another is Hanlon (iirc) Motorsports. These guys are Tremec rebuilders and could possibly hook you up with good used trans

Another option to chew on is an MT82. I'm not going to tell you it's the best option but IMHO, it's better than the 3650 and is cheap thanks to the bad reputation the MT82 got early on.
I know of one 3V running with this swap. He claimed a Dakota Digital speedometer adapter was able to get the 3V speedometer functioning. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to contact the guy for any additional info. I picked up a clutch/trans/shifter/driveshaft from a '12 GT for pocket change and will be attempting the swap at some point.

One thing to consider, the gears have dfferent ratios between all those, and 5 vs 6 speeds. No big deal if you dont care about working cruise control. With tuming, any one of those can be made to work cruise.
Not a fan of using extra boxes like Dakota digital unless its the only solution, and it isnt.

@Windy_3V Your best option is to rebuild your existing TR3650. It already has gear ratios that are well suited both to the 3V engine AND the Coyote.
I wouldn't touch an MT82 with a ten-foot bargepole. They're cheap for a reason, and that's because they're crap.
IMO Ford should have stuck with the TR3650 for the 11-14 GT and possibly even beyond. My only small criticism is that it should have been a 6-speed with a 0.82:1 5th gear ratio and the 0.68:1 as a 6th gear ratio instead of 5th, but Ford probably wanted it as a 5-speed to keep the cost down.

If you go the T56 route, check out D&D performance, if not for the whole kit, then for the bell housing and driveshaft. The link below is for the complete kit, but if you look around on their site you can find the individual components.

I had my shop do my T56 using the D&D kit on their reco and everything went beautifully, been driving it for over 5 years, no problems.

One more thing though --Not sure about the TR6060, but the T56 has a different amount of splines on the input shaft, so you'd need a new clutch.

And like Juice says, since the gear ratios are different, cruise control won't work in certain gears. My shop has yet to figure out how to fix it. They tried changing the N/V ratios, but the car still says it's in Gear 0 for 3rd and 5th, so I only get cruise in 4th and 6th.
