Mcleod RST clutch + what else

I got my RST and was wondering what else i should be replacing/upgrading in the transmission area at the same time? such as the throwout bearing? flywheel? what not?

yes i did search but my google/search foo was not with my this am.

The RST has a slightliy larger footprint on the flywheel. To get MAX contact I think you may need the Mcleod flywheel designed to be used with the RST.

I have the RST and a Fidanza 8 bolt aluminum flywheel. 550 rwhp and no issues. It's not a must, just a suggestion.

I'm also on the original TOB. It does make noise, but hasn't failed yet.

I agree. This is very important especially you run long tube headers. The heat will eventually deteriorate the plastic clutch fluid line. When it ballons, loss of clutch disengagement. If it bursts, well no clutch. I'm doing this mod in Sept up at Brenspeed along with many other mods. Parts are being ordered and assembled now for my visit. Can't wait. I'm so excited about doing all this.

You can use it with the stock flywheel but as above poster said it's foot print is larger than the stock clutch so a different flywheel would benefit. Alot of guys put the 99-04 flywheels with the rst on their s197's

FRPP line is wayyy expensive. Call JPC and get a stainless steel braided line upgrade for like less than half that FRPP cost. I think around $65-$70. Get a new pilot bearing too...you'll need a pilot brg puller to remove the old one.

This is like the 2nd or third time i have heard this, I dont' know where this rumor started or if they changed anything, but i bought my RST a little over a year ago and I compared my stock clutch and my RST side by side and they are the same size. Mcleod reccomends reusing the stock s197 flywheel, they designed it this way.

I run a 01.5-04 Flywheel with the the RST. There is definitely a difference. The S197 flywheel has a larger hub opening than the SN95's do because larger clutches are used in the 05+. I believe I measured the SN95 flywheel hub opening at 6" and the S197 at 7". When I put the RST disk against the OEM flywheel you can definitely see that there is about 50% of the disk surface not contacting the OEM flywheel due to the larger hub area.

So its just a flywheel size preference, thanks Tony, I kept seeing all these statements that the rst disc size is bigger and i held both the rst and oem clutch in my hands and they were the damn same size. lol

Well i ran it on an oem flywheel as mcleod intended and i have a fidanza aluminum flywheel now and it has performed flawlessly on both.

I'll be running a one piece Fidanza billet steel flywheel that is the 99-04 size with my RST.

Did any of you guys replace the clutch line without pulling the trans? I looked tonight and I don't see any way in hell this can be done.

That is correct. And it works great. BUt if you get Mcleods flywheel you will gain some surface contact.

read my post carefully, I did not state it was a larger clutch I said the footprint was larger i.e. would need a 99-04 flywheel to make more surface contact vs re-using a s197 oem flywheel. sorry if I wasn't so clear.
