Cooling mods?

Wow.. finally a response where I see someone admitting things lol.

My engine coolant temps climbed around to 206-210 in a straight but would drop when doing the in course stuff.. Oil temps I haven't measured yet but thats soon to be worked on. And intake would raise in wot but would cool down in the in field stuff.

But with that said, I boxed in my radiator and also next week working on some cooling setup with the water going through the radiator trying to force more to the radiator for cooling...

But, as the thread says, what have you been doing with your coolings mods with the procharger?

Steeda cowl hood, heat wrap, Roush track pack grille, electric h2o pump, thermostat, 70/30 water mix with water wetter and trying to promote airflow to the intercooler & radiator.

You could try venting the underhood air also...with a hood/heat extractors....
When i pulled my ac out..i also removed my condenser, that dropped temps alittle

With a blower setup... if you've been tracking the car hard..a oil cooler/power steering cooolers helpful

So I have cooling issues with a stock engine. I have a JLT intake, SCT tune, and Borla long tube. It makes 305RWHP. At Infineon the car spends approximately 60 seconds of a 1:52-53 second lap at 100% throttle. At 75° ambient the car overheated with the stock radiator, even went into limp mode. I recently installed a Revan Racing radiator with 100% water/Water Wetter. Its much much better but the car still runs warm during a really fast 20min session. I have the Griggs power steering cooler and CorteX air extraction hood installed as well.

It just that the car has so little power it spends more the 50% of a lap at W.O.T.
The car was running hot during this video, 68° ambient.

I'm assuming you've checked that the stat is operating correctly, so...

Just a first-impression guess, but with all those cooling mods, don't you suspect the tune? Sounds like whoever developed the tune was overly aggressive with the timing on the top end so that she'd post a dyno number or something.

Did you get alternative tunes programmed into your SCT unit? If so, have you tried using them and see how she does? Might be worth checking on. I have 89, 91, and 93 octane tunes, but I usually only run the 91 when on track and use 93 octane fuel. Think of it as a buffer.

I agree with the tstat could be a first problem off the bat or like Philostang said it could also be something in the tune somewhere. I knowing after messing with my tunes, I found the tune I thought was the best was actually killing me.. had a little too much timing and it would lose power when it got hot big time.
Also, I know from others mentioning it that I race with, that the long tubes supposedly create a ton of heat.. and having no way to escape it causes a huge heat build up. Maybe heat wrap them if not already and i've found taking the plastic pieces where the wind shield wipers are, off.. releases a TON of air as well.

Colin, something is definitely off... I run a full bolt-on car, stock radiator, with a Mezeire electric pump and water/water-wetter, BUT I also have an oil cooler, and I can assure you, that makes a world of difference! After two back-to-back 20 minute flogging sessions (pull in and re-pit), my oil temps were in the 210* range, and my coolant temp was only 220*, all well within "normal" operating temps... Cruising on the highway, I struggle to hit 190*.

Colin, ran my stock radiator in 95+ degrees temps with the supercharger and never overheated. I did have some heat soak but that was it. I even had the stock hood insulation still in at that point.

Basics first like thermostat etc etc

Try a higher flow grille to promote more air flow to the radiator along with the ford racing cooling plates
Look into a oil cooler setup (can't go wrong with that)

You may not want to...but some hardcore guys have removed the ac to save weight and remove the condenser for lower temps

:p

I've got a upgraded mishimoto radiator. Temp never moves up

Dont have an oil temp monitor so I dont know how oil temps are though.

I didnt think the Electric water pump was up to the standard of road racing abuse. Since some of you guys have it with no issues, that'll be my next mod.

Do you have a warning system in place to catch it before it fails?

So I have a question, what kinda tstat's are you guys running? What coolant temps are you guys looking to have? Keeping the stock tstat's or upgrading to 160 or 170?

Stant 180* T-stat (Reische 170* on the shelf), Shelby/Revan radiator, EMP mechanical high flow water pump, 100% water + water wetter, Snow stage 3 water/meth injection, custom functional hood scoop, insulation blanket delete

EDIT: I saw mention of 'Ford Racing cooling plates' - what's that?

Ok, I have been tracking my car since purchase in 2008. I started having issues with heat under the hood when smaller pulley for roushcharger has been installed. Another issue was lack of venting for correct airflow outta engine bay during high speed driving.

This is what I did:
Mezziere water pumps
Steeda heat exchanger
Fluidine radiator
Roush high flow grill
Supersnake vents and functional roush scoop.

Now I am a happy camper and can literally abuse the car for an hour without any issues.

I thought I had seen these for less, but you can pick up "replacement" Super Snake hood vents at different vendors, such as this guy.

Good point. I had my tuner produce a tune just for road racing. A regular street/drag tune would likely need more fuel for road racing. A lean tune could also lead to melted cats.
