What modifications does your car have, how much HP and TQ does it make, how much does it weigh? Lots of questions need to be answered before anyone can help you.

My best advice would be to call the company you plan to buy your converter from and talk with their tech department. They will point you in the best direction for your responses to what I am sure will be lots of questions.

I don't have an auto, but if I did I'd buy from Precision Industries most likely. Who do you plan to buy from? Some companies don't have the greatest reputations but do a good job advertising.

PI Triple Disk 3200 stall sounds like your best bet, great for an all around performance improvement and not even close to being TOO much for the street

stock

Keep the stock! You don't need anything else until you add some power! Just look at JDM's success with a OE converter in the 450+ rwhp range.

Take a look at Precision Industries. In all my travels lurking on web boards and talked with people at the track I've never read or heard a bad thing about their product. I can't say that about TCI or Art Carr.

I wouldn't advise it, a lot of people seem to be having a problem with TCI TC's, do a search and you will see.

I have heard great things about PI though..

I have a TCI 3000 stall converter for sale very soon if you can wait about a week or 2. I'm going to a higher stall so this one will be available. Less than 2000 miles on it and it works great. its all in the tune for the converter to work correctly...imo.

suspension

It seems your heart is set on getting new converter but until you add a FI and a forged SB, your stock conveter is the least of your worries, it will be that piece of crap 5r55s (but at your 28x rwhp not an issue). You would be better off doing some suspension mods and if done correctly it would net you the same improvement in your 60' as a triple disk IMO. Good luck in your choice!

Pick a stall speed that's just a few hundred rpm's below your engine's peak torque. In a fairly stock 3V that makes peak torque at 4500 rpm's, that means a stall speed of around 3800-4200 rpm's for the best results. If you go with a centrifugal blower or turbo later, the stall speed will go up as you add more power to the converter you choose, which is great to get into the higher power bands of those types of power adders. If you're going to go with a twin screw or roots blower, you'll want less stall speed, so then I'd suggest a converter with a stall speed in the 3000-3200 rpm's.
