...in a supercharge car.

I'm referring to the after-intercooled IAT. I know that key-off, heat-soaked in a parking lot it hits low 130's. I'm not sure I've ever seen it hit 140.

I want to setup my Aerorforce Interceptor to let me know when my IAT gets too high. Seems like a good idea, as someone on another forum let me know their block popped because their intercooler pump quit and they didn't realize it.

I have data logged as high as 170 in my kenne bell with a large ice tank in the trunk.I start the 1/4 mile at 90-100 & maintain that till the 1/8 mile then they climb from 100 to 170 to the stripe which is only 4 seconds, then they quickly fall.I think the ice may temp plug the line on the bottom to the pump or the pump cannot over come the G-force,or the pump cavitates do to the liquid be slammed backwards during takeoff.

Well I just ran my car at the track after installing the E-Force blower last weekend and by the end of my run it's seeing almost 180 IAT's. It's pulling some serious timing at that point. This is with the 3" pulley making 10-11 lbs boost.

I only datalogged my 3rd run and haven't had too much time to go over it but something's definately not quite right. Still running 11.6's with that @ 119mph.

The amount of timing pulled based on IAT depends heavily on the type of fuel you are using. If you are using 91 or 93 then be very conservative. If you are using some heavy duty race gas (or E85) it becomes less of an issue. Of course the lower the IAT, the more power the car is going to make, no matter what.

Dysan, you might want to check out your intercooler system. I know you are running a 3.0" pulley compared to my 3.5" but those temps seem a bit high. I hit about 9psi and have never seen my inlet air temps go over 140, even in this wicked summer heat we are having. If all is fine you actually may run better with a 3.25" pulley until it cools off. I also drained my intercooler down a little and added a half a bottle of "Water Wetter" to my reservoir. I had a 50/50 mix of water and anti-freeze in there so I just finished filling it up with a little distilled water. I have a little more water than anti freeze now. That along with the Water Wetter made a noticable difference. Still 11.6@119 is awesome in this heat. When it cools off, you're gonna really pick up. I bet you can get well into the 10s with your setup under ideal conditions.

I was thinking about going distilled water with a tiny amount of antifreeze and Purple ice in it last night. I also think that I really want to get the canton I/C resevoir so I can dump ice in there cause I don't think the 3-4 ice cubes we could fit in the stock edelbrock resevoir would do much :).

I guess it's all just a game to figure out how to get the system more efficient. I think by the 1000' foot mark my timing was all the way down at 9 degrees, but I need to double check the datalog after I get home from work today. If I can get the IAT's under control then I'll be quicker than the 11.5 and I'll have to change my pulley. I don't have a cage yet so the 11.6's were working well for me.

I'm curious to see how you come out. I plan a very similar build myself. I haven't had to deal with high IATs yet but with a built motor and more boost, its probably coming. Whatever you do to get the temp down, I may just go ahead and do the same and take care of it beforehand.

This coming week I've got my dual Aeroforce Interceptor gauges coming. They can record data when you run so I'll be able to see live what's going on.

I think just increasing the fluid capacity will make a decent difference and having the ability to put ice in it as well. I'm suprised how well the car is working with 4.10's in it with the blower. I thought I'd be blowing the tires off at the line but it's working great. I may have to put my 3.73's back in though since I'm crossing at around 6k now so if / when I get more power I really don't want to wind it out much more.

You guys should look into water injection, or windshield washer fluid. Cool that charge down a lot. I just added the trunk mount kit from AIS and all I can say is when the pump goes on, the IATs drop. I havent had it to the track since the install (need to find a babysitter ASAP).

You should run 100% water and some water wetter if you like. It cools better than coolant. Theres no need for antifreeze in the supercharger coolant system since it will never get anywhere near hot enough to boil the water. You can add a few ounces of coolant for some of its anti-coprrosive properties but thats really all you need.

My tune is set up to pull timing at 137. That was my tuners call. I have one of my aeroforce displays set to display iat's and monitor them all the time. In stop and go traffic it may get to 120 but cools down as soon as the car gets moving and the revs pull fresh air in.

I built an ice box for my car and gained 3 mph in my trap. When the weather cools a bit and I get a DA below 3000, maybe I can make some real good passes.

That's definitely a thought. I don't have to really worry about it freezing too much either because I keep in the garage during the winter and my garage stays above 50 degrees. Should I use 100% distilled water and Water Wetter? I will probably have to drain the system here pretty soon. I have got to pull the supercharger so I can replace my clutch. I don't think the engine is going to tilt enough without removing it.

Just to show how high it got at the end of my 3rd run at the track I took a screen shot from livelink and the IAT was 185, rpm's just over 5900 and my spark was down to 10.321.

^Are you running the heat-exchanger that came with your E-Force?
If yes, it sounds like it's time for an upgrade.

Yes. I just installed the e-force last weekend and it was the first time with it at the track. Damnit..guess I need to spend more money. Time for the canton resevoir and I need to figure out which heat exchanger will work easiest with the edelbrock hose routings.
