Pricing was just released today on the crate engine, and control pack (sold separate). It also mentions you need an alternator kit, p/s kit, and that the PCM That's included in the control pack) is designed to run with a return style fuel system. And the engine cover is also not included with the crate engine. Between those items mentioned, there shouldn't be anything else really needed.

Retail on the crate engine is $6900, and there's room for haggling. Retail on the control pack is $1495, which includes the PCM and the "body" harness. I didn't see pricing on the other kits required to make this work yet, but they'll be out soon.

The S197 and SN style 4.6 motor mounts will bolt right up. Any "modular" transmission will bolt up. It really shouldn't be a big deal to make one of these fully functional in an S197.

I'd imagine it would be reasonably easy to achieve for around $8500 for everything needed (assuming you get a better deal than retail).

Part numbers:

M-6000-M50 Crate engine
M-6017-A504V Control pack
M-8600-M50ALT Alternator kit
M-9680-M50 Engine cover kit
I don't have the part number for the P/S kit.

Great info boss. Yeah this would be a badass swap for sure, but for $8500+ why not find a GT500 5.4L and trans?

I have a buddy in the market for a GT500 swap for is '01 Saleen, and you can't touch one for anywhere near $8500. I'm trying to talk him into going with this 5.0L.

just depends on where you look and how patient you are.....o got a buddy who got a gt500 swap for almost half that....installed, they took the wrecked gt500 and stripped it and then stripped his car and transfered EVERYTHING including brakes....for ALOT less than $8500......not typical at all, but the deals are out there in places you wouldnt expect it.......to all of us "mustang" people we know what the stuff is worth....but "regular" folk dont care.....they just see $$$

Iron vs aluminum. That's reason enough for me.
However, with the 5.0, you're still limited by the rods - to what degree, I don't know, but I'd imagine the safe peak power limit will be close to the 3V, if not a little higher. So I guess that makes it a toss up.
But for $8500, why not just build a 3V with forged bottom end and call it a day?

I can get the motor alone for $5600. Supposedly there is a bracket so you can use power steering instead of electric.
That's good to know. Do you have link for that? It's the first I've heard of it, but it definitely makes sense.
I wonder if it's possible to swap the EPS into an 05-10 and if so, what the cost would be.

Yep, weight is what I was thinking as well. Also agree to just build a 3V and call it a day. Hell, JDM has their 302 for $3,999 and it bolts right up.

what do you mean by, "bolts right up"?

Also, how much HP does it make N/A ?

No modifications needed to install, i.e., mounts, tranny, PCM, etc. Talke the old one out, swap the heads, plenum, manifolds, etc. and put it in. As far as N/A HP, you'll need to talk to JDM about that.

i personally have thrown off my build plans waiting for these to start landing in the junkyards so i can just buy the engine/6spd/pcm/harness swap. ive driven one and ive driven a friends 10 lb saleen supercharged mildly built s197 and i must say id rather have the 5.0. for those of you that havent driven one, you dont know what youre missing. the 2011 ass just wont grow on me so im not trading up .but man that thing runs like a sewing machine. one question though, does anyone know the weight difference between an 05-09 and the 2011coupe?

That I know. Theres a PS kit that allows you to use a normal steering. My main thing is the computer. Anyone tuned one is the main question

What about the electrical assisted steering, will the p/s kit make that work?

They'll offer a kit to run regular p/s. So far it looks like electric p/s isn't going be offered as any kind of upgrade for the '10 and older cars.

Tuning would be nearly the same as tuning any '11 currently. And nearly every tuner is tuning these right now and doing a pretty good job of it.
