When I bought my car and had it insured they ran the VIN and asked us if we knew it had mods. We told them we did. They quoted an insurance price based off all the info including the mods, agreed and the car is insured.

A few weeks later they call my wife as they're instructed not to call me during business hours. They ask my wife to provide a dyno sheet. My wife asks if they're going to pay for the dyno time. Naturally they say no and my wife declines to provide it since the car has never been dyno'd.

Can they stop insuring us for not providing one or otherwise demand we provide one?

Other than raising our rate why would they ask for one? They agreed to insure the car based on all the information we had and gave to them.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Is there anything else I should be wondering/asking?

Keep in mind they have not asked again and our car is still insured.

Thanks in advance.

Wow i've never heard of this, how would they know the car was modded by running the vin#? I don't see any reason other than raising your rates they would want to know power numbers. I would leave it alone unless they demand a dyno.

I am the second owner of the car and there are two possibilities for them knowing the car was modded. First the mods were dealer installed FRPP parts and tied somehow that way. Second the previous owner registered the mods with his insurance who then added the information to an insurance database which would have been accessed by my insurer.

can't demand a dyno unless they pay for it. Now they can 'estimate' hp by the mods which the burden of proof will fall on the owner to dispute it if it's incorrect. They can request a dyno and if you don't provide it they can drop you, which may or not be illegal, but are you going to fight it ? I'd call a couple other ins companies and get some quotes. The vin may or may not show up as being modded. Sounds like the previous owner added his upgrades and you have the same ins co. No other way to get that info that I know of.

Maybe if you provided some info ? Supercharged or new spoiler ? Makes a difference.

Gotcha, if you both agreed on the price before hand i doubt they can force you to get a dyno. Someone probably screwed up and they now think they can get more money from you. Who's your insurance through by the way.

I can definitely say we have different insurance companies. We declined and nobody is pressing the issue.

All I have is frpp intake, exhaust, headers, cams, suspension and the necessary tuning.

I think they might have been trying to get us to volunteer one.

I was just looking for feedback and opinions on the situation.

My company is not a huge company, I found them through a broker.

It's a company thru a broker, so prob. smaller one. Maybe, they ask that question for every mustang/camero/vette/etc. owner. Sounds fishy. There are a bunch of these shoestring ins. co., and they all have 1 thing in common : they don't pay on a claim, be careful, I got screwed by one of them.

I've been using brokers for years I'm not worried. They pay out about as much as the bigger thieves too.

Absolutely correct! I've been with a local northwest insurace company for 12 years, I know I pay a little more, but if I have a problem I can talk to my agent directly. No quarrels whatsoever and they always take care of issues 100 percent. Worth 120 bucks a year and then some.

Yep I agree with the majority here. My insurance company never said anything about mods. Even had an adjuster out once who was a mustang owner and he had no issues with my car and it's heavily moddified

If they were demanding the sheet or saying they weren't going to insure the car I would agree. They asked and I declined to provide one, they were probably trying to raise the rates like everyone suspected.

By you not providing one, I can see it already... You need to make a claim, and then they say you didn't fulfill what was required of a modded car... Something really stupid like that...

Have you thought about raising the deductibles? You would see a significant savings on $1000 deductibles.
