Prothane motor mounts failing?

During a inspection tonight before I pull my engine to forge it out I noticed a 1/8" gap on both prothane mounts. Looks like the top red bushing is squashed causing the gap you see in this photo.

That's not good. Has anyone else with prothane mounts noticed this happening to theirs? These have about 10k miles on them.

These are one year old and garage kept if that matters.

Mine have been on the car just over a year too. I will check mine out.

I bought some used ones that were like that. I pulled them apart and removed some material to close up the gap. I also put a hose clamp around the outside of the top bushing half to try to prevent or at least slow down further squishing out. A bit ghetto? Perhaps..but effective.

Funny you should bring this up. I had my installed last August and within a week or so the passenger side mount started expanding out. CJ Pony Parts and Prothane both claimed this was normal.

Hasn't appeared to be any issues, but I'm actually having them changed out with Lethal's mounts this Monday.

I'll post some pics after the install.

Red bushing or black bushing is the same Durameter rating according to Prothane. I have the black bushings in mine no problems so far about 5 k on em.

I have the black, been on for 3yrs/30k.
Gap looks alittle less 1/16", no bulge
of top part.

isn't that what basically rubber/plastic is gonna do? just a question of when?

Checked mine, still looks good, no bulge.

I had this same problem with the Prothane mounts in our twin turbo car. They replaced the bushings twice for us at no charge.

I just felt underneath the passenger side mount I talked about in an earlier post...same type of gap as the OP.

theres a screw on the bottom of the mount, maybe it needs to be tightend up?

i love these mounts, cars shifting improved so much but between this isue and all the vibrations, i think i might go back to stock.

I like the vibrations, sorta feels like an old muscle car.

I wouldn't change the mounts out if they aren't giving you trouble.

I suppose what makes me nervous is that imaging the motor flexing when I launch. If it's bulging now just imaging those 5000RPM launches and then the reason I put these in here was to improve my shifting. I did notice better shifts from 2-3 at first but I have been feeling the shifting getting harder over time. Admitingly it's a stretch that the gap is causing flex but dang...I bought these to reduce flex..not add some in.

Does anyone know what the "warranty" is for the prothanes? I may have to give them a call to see what they have to say. Id rather not have the gap but when I remove them I could tighten the bottom Allen bolt up to eliminate the gap if that's what the supplier ends up saying. I find it's interesting a few others have this gap too and did know it.
