Prothane motor mounts failing?

I just had this happen yesterday. I have a bigger gap in mine then you have in yours. The top bushing had sagged enough my headers started hitting the frame rail. I put a piece of 1/4 inch steel under each mount location where the screw attaches the mount to the body of the car. Raised the motor about 1/4inch and took care of my problem.

Also, those of you that have that gap on the bottom, do you notice the motor moving freely more, as if the stock mounts are in? do the mounts still feel the same as before when they were just installed? i am getting worried now.

I have the black ones w/1/16" gap w/no bulge
and everything still feels good, I think the small gap is
okay but I will be watching for bulge, even with small
gap these are 1000% better than factory mounts, with
those I drove car with hood off once and thought the engine
was going to bounce out.

Wow.. Both of mine look the same as stang7300 with that buldge. I am not sure that I would trust a different set. IMHO the poly compound they use would have to be different in another set otherwise the result would be the same after some level of use/time.

I suppose my question to Prothane would be have you change the compound of materials used to create the rubber parts of your mount. If they say no..then I think I will look elsewhere for another manufacture.

Even with the bushing sagging and my header being less than 1/4" from the frame rail, the motor doesn't shift far enough to the right under extreme corning to get it to hit the frame. It did when the motor was 1/4 lower though.

I don't think the bushing is going to cause an issue.

the puck looks, cracked or just squished? I think all you have
to do is remove bolt that is in the bottom.

Thats good to know, since mine are 3yrs old and
not bulging yet I think I might put a band clamp on
passenger side since its sees most of load under accel
and keep eye on them.
Good info to have and since their are probably only a few
companys that make the urethane stock, now going to have
to look at all my aftermarket control arm bushings.

I could see most of it because of the gap - it's just squished. The polyurethane on the Lethal mounts aren't as thick...knock on wood, they are holding up so far.

well i decided my mounts are coming out this weekend

I bought some used ones that were like that. I pulled them apart and removed some material to close up the gap. I also put a hose clamp around the outside of the top bushing half to try to prevent or at least slow down further squishing out. A bit ghetto? Perhaps..but effective.

Changed my oil last night and took a peek at this. Hose clamp seems to be doing the trick, it's not flowing out around it (been on about a year now). You could probably just put a clamp on and tighten it up to close up the gap without having to shim it or take it apart..

I was under my car this morning and checked the steeda HD mounts. Tiny gap under mine as well so it's not just a prothane issue. I may make swapping them out next weekends project but I'm hesitant because as far as I can tell it's not causing a problem. No additional vibration noticed...

Sorry to bring this up from the past, but I have a motor mount related question and this seems like a good thread to ask it in because guys are mentioning both black and red mounts.


What is the different between the black bushing and the red bushing? I thought that maybe one color was stiffer than the other, but I read that years ago and cannot remember/can't find where I read that. Any insight...?
