I hear what you guys both are saying and again thank you JJ@WMS for bringing the initial raw date to the community. This intake is not going to be for everyone, if your goal is to maintain factory redline and warranty than your better off doing a JLT and a tune with exhaust than this mod. But for those that want to drag the cars or road race them then this manifold despite slight torque losses is the ticket. The increase in high rpm power is substantial but knowing that the 302R race cars don't rev to 8,000 rpm for me it would make sense to set the rev limiter at 7500 rpm but thats just me and my opinion.

Regarding being slower, I guarantee you take a car that doesn't have more gear and supporting mods to handle the extended RPM so it is "safe" to shift higher, will be slower than the same car with the stock intake. Your dyno graphs show what will happen. There is no speculation there.

Dude, you must be looking at a different dyno graph, because even with a 7200 rpm rev limit (widely accepted to be very safe) there are a lot more gains than losses within the RPM range you would be in while racing.
I just crunched the numbers, and even with 3.73s you would only ever be below 5k rpm in 1 st gear. Everey other gear when you shift you are at 5k+ rpm.
Make an imaginary line at 5k rpm and at 7200 rpm and look at the volume of the difference between the gains and losses.

RPM has alot to do with clutch function/strength.
Spin it to fast and it can come apart and completely total ur car (rare but possible).
Or if it spins to fast it may not engauge properly and slip.

^^^^^^^This makes sense for race application for most of us....I can't wait until I see a refined tune!!! Those that are worried about DD only and question the usefulness of this.....you don't need it.

Here is a quick video of a 3rd gear pull into 4th. The audio is cutting out and ahead of the video for some reason but you will get to see where the rpm falls after the shift. Taking it to 7500-7600 on this pull. Works pretty darn good if I must say so myself.

im just worried about consistent shifts that high without a built valvetrain, the boss 302rs only have a 7500rpm rev limit and thats what im basing my judgement on

when will you be able to get more tuning in?

7600 shift with a drop to 6000 is going to make this motor so much faster in every way. its dropping in the middle of its top hp band.

Really man come on....

Hoping you are just reading into my recommendations and seeing it the wrong way.

1. An owner needs to have an upgraded valvetrain to support shifting at a higher RPM. I.E. 7600-8K. If you don't feel this way then that is fine. I would hate to see people blowing up their motors because they bolted this intake on and now think it is OK to shift at those RPM's without doing the supporting mods.

2. We agree on the drivetrain. Some goes here. Don't want a clutch/flywheel failure here at high RPM. Disastrous and catastrophic.

I think the intake is solid and produces gains but does so at a very high rpm. Encouraging people to bolt this on and go make 8K RPM blasts is not responsible. Not saying you did or have but I think there needs to be a disclaimer/explanation/recommendation for those who will be running it to ensure they have supporting mods to do it. Does that mean there are folks who are going to do it anyway? Yes however at least they know they are playing with matches when they do it.

Regarding being slower, I guarantee you take a car that doesn't have more gear and supporting mods to handle the extended RPM so it is "safe" to shift higher, will be slower than the same car with the stock intake. Your dyno graphs show what will happen. There is no speculation there.

Enough of the thread hijack. I simply wanted the community to be aware of the extended needs when using this intake.

i appeciate your words of caution, but you sare assuming too much, when you think we need your advice or criticism on every thread.

you are not saying anything inciteful. 90 pecent of us already know what we want, and how it will work. no offense man. i tire of seeing your posts.

im not sure what everyone was expecting. me, myself i am expecting tune changes, and throttle body, and this intake to yied 20rwhp. top. its a piece of a puzzle. its not a supercharger.

the numbers ive seen with no tuning time, support what i expected. a15 lb-ft increase at 7300 will yield that number.

i'm reading a bunch of people racing a dyno number. thats camaro5 territory. ill take a 800rpm power extension.

What are you basing these upgrades on. Have you torn down a 5.0 and inspected the valve train?? Were you involved in the engineering of this motor?? You sound like an internet expert, why don't you just wait for the dyno sheet and save your doom and gloom.........

And exactly how do you know for sure that these "extended needs" will be absolutely needed?

I mean your coming off as if you have done the testing and know for a fact that parts will fail if the car is shifted above 7500rpms when in fact you really dont have any information other then speculation that this will happen.

You might be absolutely right and dead on with your speculation but until its proven that valvetrain upgrades are needed or not your opinion is just that, speculation.

We do agree on the clutch however I doubt your going to see any "catastrophic" or "dangerous" failures with the stock clutch, you will just see what we have already seen and thats cars that wont shift because the clutch cant handle it.

Yes a numerically low gear ratio car with an auto shouldnt get this intake and would be slower but as I said, most modded cars that use this intake will be faster. Ours has 3.73's back in it and feels a ton stronger in all rpm's and there is no noticeable torque loss even though it shows in the graph.

We are here to test this unit and I will do my best to break whatever I can in an attempt to show what the consequences of using this intake and shifting at a higher rpm might be, but until I or someone else starts breaking stuff its irresponsible to "warn the community" about something you really dont have any information on.

I appreciate your thoughts, input and opinions.

Thanks,

JJ

Don't get me wrong. I think it is great you are out there testing it and it damn sure has potential.

It is strictly speculation on my part. I am probably being over cautious here but think it is reasonable to look at the whole picture. That is all. No harm or offense intended.

I see what you are saying. I had my mind set on a auto with the factory 3.15. Agree the more gear the car has, the potential goes way up.

No harm or offense taken. Its all good and trust me that if I do break something in the valvetrain you will hear about it. I'm not going to hush anything up on what we find as a weakspot, but lets hope that doesnt happen.

Thanks again,

I also wanted to add that I doubt that I will get back on the dyno with the car this week and the following week we are on vacation, so it might be the first week of March before I can get some more tuning done on the car. We are slammed with work and I need to get this work out of here before we leave on vacation. If I do get a chance or a late evening to put it back on the dyno and do some more tuning I will let you guys know.

Thanks,

JJ

Oh no! Sounds like a magazine has offered some "hush money" and we'll have to wait. :omfg:

Just breaking your balls a little JJ. I'm glad to hear you guys have a bunch of work to get done and are going to enjoy a little vacation. Thanks for all you do for our community.

How much do you think the intake with benefit FI applications for those that DONT want to rev to 7500 with the boost?
