Well my garage project is finally underway! Started tonight by knocking down the privacy fence and the rod iron gate. Going to Lowe's tomorrow am and buying all the material to frame up the 3rd wall and the front where the dual bay garage door will be..Will also be insulating the walls/drywall/etc. Gotta figure out what Im going to cover the outside with though.

The first couple photos are when I first started. The last couple pics are the finished product. Progress pics can be found all throughout the thread.

Yes, that is my cowl hood towards the bottom of the screen...Not bad for a fiberglass hood :)

Got 99% of the framing done today. Tomorrow we will put the backing up, siding, insulation, sheetrock, extra power outlets, etc. Should be done tomorrow and then hopefully my door will be installed this week.

Looking good bro! Are you going to finish out the garage or just leave the tape and bed visible?

huh? lol The garage is going to be fully finished. Will have insulation, sheetrock, smoothed and painted, shelves, finishing trim, etc etc..Will also have new air compressor, rolling tool box, etc as well. Also will be redoing the floors with that really strong paint with the flakes in it.

The outer wall is considered a load bearing wall. Its supporting that side of the roof. I would put a double stud where the original post was, looks to be the 7th stud in either direction. Also depending on codes where you live it may be necessary to put in horizontal bracing. Whats in the garage ceiling for framing? You said you were installing a garage door, you may want to make sure that the framing is sturdy enough to hold up roughly a 200-300 lb door. Are you using a garage door opener? Where is the tension spring going to mount?

I agree, never too many outlets.

Definitely. I like to have two outlets on each wall of a two car garage.

Agreed. I wouldn't even think about not putting horizontal bracing in that load bearing wall as well as the double stud at the least.

Good point about the ceiling framing as well as the garage door. How tall is the carport? Have to figure you're going to lose roughly a foot on where you're mounting the garage door on the top.

The original post was BS...Not mounted or anything..We hit it with a sledge hammer and it just slide out. The new walls are 100x better than that crappy post that was there...Also, we didn't just mount the top/bottom floors and then mount in bracing. We actually made the walls and then beat them into place. They are holding that part of the room perfectly. Also, no horizontal bracing is needed. From all the backpaneling thats mounted to every stud + the sheetrock that will be mounted, the boards will not bend. My father is in construction and he knows alot about this (not saying you dont - but I completely trust his decisions). The ceiling is supported by 2x8 planks I believe. Looks just like the attic so it is perfectly sound there. It is plenty to hold the garage door. And yes, Im using a garage door opener. The company who I bought the door from is installing it, so thats for them to figure out. Im framing it up per their specs.

Here's more progress from today. It has been fully enclosed. Now, I need to run a bead of caulk on every seam, top, bottom, etc. Then we are putting house wrap on it and then the siding. Then onto the insulation, sheetrock, mud, sand, paint. I added 2 electrical sockets as I already have 1, so that's plenty for me. The wires will be ran sometime this week. Should have a full garage by the weekend.

That's what I was wondering? Are you going to texture it and paint it? Half the time people don't and half the time they do.. Jw.
