anyway

I guess I asked for some of the simple replies with my simple question, so apologies if I came off being a dick...not my intent..

I guess I should clarify...I am not stuck on a $4k budget...that's just the amount I decided I am willing to spend on a slightly used kit...I have money to buy supporting mods, etc.

My battle is actually more of this....

Sell my car (right now could take some time..) and get a few thousand extra for a down payment and search for a good deal on an 07 GT500, or FI my current ride. I like how my ride looks more than a stock GT500 (my taste) but the powerplant and trans are a much better platform in the 500. This is going to raise my car payment by at least $100.00 per month...Hard to find a decent deal on one as well.

The other option is going FI with the GT. My concern is that without forging the internals, you (me) are stuck with a safe tune of under 500rwhp. Eventually I will want more power (dont we all) and in order to obtain it, I will need to shell out a fair amount of money to build up the motor...

I am really torn on what I should do. All I know is my lightly modded GT is not nearly fast enough for my taste. I would consider going LT headers, cams, pullies and a good tune, but that is going to cost close to if not that same as getting a used blower.

A little info on my car if it helps anybody give their opinion (sorry for the extended post..)..

I got my car from TN where it had one owner who was an older man who drove this car only on the weekends, if it was nice. The car is an 06 and had only 9,000 miles!! Car has never seen salt, barely seen rain. I have a Jeep as a DD but do drive my car a lot (or did..plus a recent drive to FL) and now have around 20,XXX. I know this car and I am SO anal about it I know it's been taken care of. Buying a used car is always a risk, and this car I am more than comfortable with. It's just about deciding what makes the most sense. Again, sorry for the ramble..but I am sure many of you have been at this crossroad and can lend some insight as to how they decided what to do.

Getting a GT500 would be the easier and the less costly over time idea... If you don't have too much invested in your current ride, I suggest you go with this plan.

I on the other hand screwed myself over, and spent waay to much money modding my car... so I was left one reasonable choice... Go FI. But... That being said... I really love my Paxton and it provides great horsepower... I think you'd be surprised how fast a stock block FI GT can really be... Used FI is going for dirt cheap nowadays due to all the new 5.0's... Its something to think about.

Ok I see where you are coming from. Here is what I did. I too was thinking about a new fiveOh or FI mine. I went FI. This is what I bought to do the job and what I had to do afterwords and the basic costs as I remember them. I always pay more for freight so the numbers are a little higher for parts.

Roush M90 $3900
JDM CAI, tune $500
Autometor wideband and boost gauge $450
SOS gauge pod $190 (shipping killed me on that one)
Cherry bombs resonators $50
Cut out HF cats and install cherry bombs $75
Assorted parts for install, coolent, connectors, elect tape etc...$100
JDM Trans catch can $200 (shipping $49, that sucked huge!)

total about $5500

Thats what I can remember. I already had race tires and suspension is working fine in total stock form. Manuals seem to have more issues. IDK why. The m90 was on sale, so I just went for it. Am very glad I did. Car runs amazing now. I prolly am only 420 HP or so the the rear wheels with my mods but I already have major traction issues on the street. So how much HP do you really need. My concern was living on Maui I did not want to blow my motor. Shipping out a new motor and trans is stupid expensive. So I went with a safe setup with a safe tune. Running 12.4s at the track. If I really want to go faster, I can upgrade the TC and probably hit the 11's. Thats plenty fast enough.
Hope that helps you understand the costs of going FI. Also I did all the install with freinds help except the welding of the pipes. Thats a big savings.
Good luck and keep doing your research, its a smart move for sure.

I'm going to throw this out there. In about two weeks my Whipple is coming off. It's a gen 2 with 20k miles in very good condition. I will be putting it in the classifieds for $4k with the frpp 32lb injectors. Shipping and paypal will be extra. You would need a bap or GT500 pumps, some wire and splices, other little stuff and a tune. If you wanted the rest (flow matched 80lb injectors, Innovators West 10% OD balancer, 8 rib kit, pmas hpx maf) I'd work out a good price for you.

It will get even better a few weeks after that. Provided everything goes well with the new motor my built shortblock with 15,000 miles will go up. CP pistons, Manley rods, 9.4cr, runs great. Price will be 2k. For close to the price of a new Whipple someone could have a built block and Whipple HO.

To be honest, if 3-4k is what you are working with, it is not nearly enough. Getting the kit is just the first step; there is a lot of expense afterward.

I bought my kit for 6k, and by the time everything was said and done I'd spent closer to 10k.

I am telling you this so you go in with your eyes open, you are cracking open pandora's box here.

He speaks the truth man I'm already having to spend extra on other stuff.

There's a difference between things you "need" and things you'd like to "upgrade" to.

When I installed my initial supercharger I was $4k finished. That was the kit, injectors, tuner, tuned, fuel pumps, out the door down the road. I ran it that way for nearly a year with no problems at all.

Later, I installed gauges, wideband, gears, and a plethera of other things. But none of it were things I "needed". So while an SC install "can" become expensive, it can also be quite inexpensive. You just have to stay focused on what you really "need" to get it done.

Exactly my point. Yes, you can and probably will keep spending, however, other than the above mentioned items, you don't NEED anything else.
