Return fuel DDs, has anybody checked fuel temps?

Please do it and report back.

Basically daily drivers on long trips or lots of traffic.
Not very scientific but I drove the car for about an hour on secondary roads (35-70mph, almost no throttle opening) and hopped out at a gas station to put my hand on a fuel rail to see what there was to feel. It was 68deg out, the engine compartment temps where in the 80deg range (I have a thermocouple set up for this) and the fuel rails were cool to the touch. The intake, valve covers and blower were hot to the touch.

I’m running three “GT” pumps set up as a return system.

I may be picking up a data system with more analog inputs. If I do I will plumb in a fuel temp probe and dedicate a channel to it.

There is temperature sensor incorporated into the FRPT sensor (hence the T).

There is a PID for it that can be read with any scanner (aeroforce too).

On livelink there is a PID and a DMR for it, under the fuel branch.

Forgot to add, mine after an hour of heavy traffic on 80 degree ambient, reachs close to 170F.

I have a SCT Livewire. Do you know if I can read it through that? I'll be doing some stop and go with the car later today.

You will have to make and transfer a log config file to the livewire with the livelink to do that.

I will have the car back on the road tomorrow. I will see if I can monitor the fuel temp sometime in the next week. If I can find the PID. I havent done much logging.

I have Fore fuel rails & Tophat, return style with 2 walbro pumps, no FPDM's

Lito, I dont have a actual temp but it has been in low to mid 90s most of the week. I have driven in everything from 45 miles roadtrip on interstate at 80mph, 30 miles interstate with 15 miles rush hour traffic from stop to 30mph traffic, 10-20 miles of spirited driving 30mph-150mph in and outta boost and checking my rails/regulator they are warm at best. I dont know exactly how much cooler E85 is but I cant see it being a difference between warm at 170 degrees on gas.

I will pull out the snap on and get you a exact temp tomorrow but there wont be traffic.

I'm not setup like you guys, but I do have a suggestion/question. Wouldn't it be OK to get a temp by using an IR temperature gauge? Aim it at the fuel rail from 4" away and you should get a good reading on the rail at least. It's probably easier to do that than people putting in temp sensors.

Also, you can use your SCT to monitor quite a few PID's at one time on a laptop. Just install the software.

Pulled it out of the garage with 70*F frt and after an hour and 15 minutes of stop and go (with a few times under boost) in 89*F with 35% humidity it went up to 120*F frt.

I have a fore triple hat with all (3) 255lph walbros running 100% duty at 40psi base rail pressure with -8 return with no line cooler. Tank was 3/4 full with 93 octane.

Thank you, I will do some modding and add the cooler I have and report back.

The problem with that config, if I am not wrong is that once it heats it won't come back as there is no cooling device in the system.

Your installation is pre or post rail regulated?
