Ok guys this build has been a nightmare. Anything that can go wrong has. I have finally got to the point to crank it over and the engine will not turn. Now the engine would rotate when I was building it and I had a hard time getting the auto tran to bolt up to it so I'm thinking that the tranny is causing the problem. When I try to start the car you hear thud when the starter hitting the flex plate but its not able to turn it. I have put the car in natural and i cant turn the motor from the crank. I'm getting to the point that I'm going to take it to a shop because I'm at then end of my rope. So if yall have any ideal that will keep me from getting raped by the transmission shop I would be thankful.

Was the torque converter fulling engaged in the transmission pump before you bolted the engine to the transmission?

This is the first time I ever tuck on something like this so I was going by the manule so I cant say 100% if i did. I built as the steps went by fords step by step but it realy dosent give all the info that some one like me needs. So any details you can give me would be great.

When the torque converter is properly engaged in the transmission pump, the pilot on the front of the t/c will not protrude beyond the mounting face of the transmission as is shown in this picture

When you were installing the engine, did you pull the engine and transmission together with the mounting bolts or did it slide up flush to the transmission without a gap?

When you bolted the converter to the flex plate, did you have space between the two, or was it tight up against each other? could you turn the converter before you bolted it up.

I agree, it sounds like the converter was not in the pump all the way. Unbolt the trans and see if the engine turns over. You may have damaged the transmission and/or the converter.

ok thanks guys Ill give it another go. I left the tranny in the car when I pulled the old motor. It bolted back up with a gap that was a 1/8 that worked it self out when I put the car in gear and turned the back tirers I was then able to pull it in. Hopefully i didnt damage anything up but lol with the luck I have been having I more then likely fuck them both up.

Did you leave the converter in the trans or pull it with the engine.

I would say you've found your problem.

Now you have a transmission to repair as well.

yes bolted up to the flex plate

no where in any manual, Ford or other, does it state to bolt the T/C to the flex plate and then try to install the engine.

Assuming from some of your pictures that you live in the Woodlands as I believe that is Market St where your car is sitting in front of the theater. If I am correct and you need a little help let me know and I'll see if I can make it by to give you a hand.

when you leave the trans in the car to pull the motor the i always checked the converter before i put the motor back in also once you get the motor in you should be able to put your finger on the conveter stud that sticking through the flex plate and move it a little should have some play in it side to side if not the converter in not seated all the way
