'05-'09 exhaust on a 2010 GT?

Hello all. I just a picked up my 4th Mustang....a 2010 GT coupe. I am slowly learning that my 2010 is somewhat of a unique animal when it comes to exhaust systems (I think intakes too). I have not been able to find the answer I'm looking for, which I know others have asked, but here it goes.....

Will an exhaust system from an '05-'09 GT or GT500 fit on a '10? What about a '11-'14? If it isn't a direct fit, what, if anything is needed done to make it fit?

I'm asking because a guy near me is trying to sell a near new Magnaflow cat-back off his Gt500 for a great price and I'd love to put it on my GT. If it is not possible, I'll just get a system specifically designed for a 2010, it will just cost 2x as much as this one.

Thanks for any help!

I use (2010 version) FRPP FRS-500 mufflers on my 2010 GT. They also make em for 05-09 cars. The trick is.... the tips are 1" longer on the 2010 version. The 05-09 versions are 1" shorter. Everything on the 2010 is...."one off". The water pump on the 2010 is different vs the 05-09. Ditto with the alternator. (2010 is a 3 phase unit, vs the single phase for the 05-09 cars). A bunch of other stuff too.

So be real careful when ordering anything for the 2010. Just cuz it uses a 4.6L eng doesn't mean it's compatible with 05-09 cars. The 10-12 cars are the same body style, so 10-12 cars can use the same aftermarket body stuff. I use the rear spoiler + gurney flap from the 2012 GT-500.....and ditto with the rear diffuser.

The 2010 is truly a unique hybrid / bastardization vehicle.

Pentalab...thanks for the info. Have you found a good source for this information? I am very surprised about the water pump and alternator. Does the alternator at least match the 11+?

I have a Roush 2005-2009 Catback on my 2010, tips just sit in a little. I was able to adjust the pipes to get the tips to sit flush with the body.

Thanks again guys for your input...I have another clarification question....

Is there any difference between the 05-09 and the 10 subframes? Are the midpipes (the pipes between the cats and mufflers) the same among those years?

I THINK the alternator on the 2010 is slightly different than the 11+ version. I had to bumble around the hard way to find all these differences between 05-09..and the 10 car.

Dunno, but I suspect those are different too. That's one item I have not checked. A call to a ford dealer parts guy would provide the answer pretty quick. When u see parts for 05-09.... start looking for the mating 2010 listings. Some stuff will say 05-10..and a lot sez 05-09... then 2 pages over, you find the 2010 listing..with it's minor (sometimes major) differences. Even then, I will always ask... "u 100% sure it will fit a 2010 ? "

The 4.0L V6 version of the same model is the red-headed stepchild. ;-)

Agreed. We have ONE 2010- V6 here in town, an elderly woman owns it. Easy to spot with its single mouse hole exhaust on the drivers side and the usual tri-bar pony junk. I think it uses a slightly different version 5r55S auto tranny too. I believe the oem front rotors on the brakes are smaller diam than the 12.4" oem rotor's used on the 2010 GT. The 2010 V6 is even more whacked out than the GT.

K-memeber? Maybe, but they are interchangeable.

They have the same connections and will fit. But the 2010 doesn't use hangers at the trans cross-member.

I THINK the alternator on the 2010 is slightly different than the 11+ version.

05-09 has the Motorcraft 6G

2010 has a Denso

2011+ has a different Denso (different cases, same guts).
