Aternator

I have a 2006 gt and my alternator died at 12400 miles Took it out myself had a local shop replace the regulator cost $40 . Just another option for you.

I guess I can say I was lucky. I have 2006 GT and mine just went out with 135,000 miles.

PA 200 amp, and I used their wire too.

My alternator is the latest Ford alternator and only 6 months old with just a couple thousand miles on it. But I just ordered the PA 200 amp alternator and premium wire anyway because 1) I really wanted a flat black powdercoated alternator to match the rest of my engine and 2) I relocated the battery to the trunk. So my barely used Ford alt will be for sale shortly.
Anyway, I'm curious about this statement on PA's site regarding the wire. Did you guys swap your stock wire for the PA premium wire or run both together?

"THESE KITS ARE NOT INTENDED TO REPLACE THE OEM WIRE – but are large enough to work without the stock wire in race / kit applications where there is no other wiring to upgrade. There are many opinions on the internet about cable use. By using both the stock and the larger cable, everything that worked before the upgrade will still work. The bottom line, at least you must use the #4 wire kit when upgrading alternators"

I was one of the first people to get the PA 200 amp alternator. Anyway I got rid of my stock wire and have just been using the #9909 4 gauge wire ever since. No problems. Didn't know you were supposed to piggy back them. Car has been that way for 3 1/2 years and 60k miles.

You can't run the stock wire with the 200A alternator, you would probably melt it. Look in the pic below for the difference in size. Considering the wire runs along the fuel rail a wire failure will likely cause an engine fire.

If you are running your battery to the trunk, I would use a 2 gauge wire if you can get it, you can buy it by the foot at a welding supply shop. You need the larger wire for the extra 10 feet you need to run, longer wires run hotter.

^Yeah I'd never try to run just the stock cable with a 200 amp alternator, but I think I'll try to piggyback them.
As for the wire gauge, I don't have a 10' run. I've got the alt cable terminating at a junction block at the fuse box now, which seems to work out well. Thanks for the input.
