I heard the '13 auto is a pig! Better research that!

Seriously though, I hope you the best in resolving your issue!

Cory, good luck. If your warranty was reinstated, I'd made them fix the problem. Again, just don't expect that they won't unsuccessfully try to fix the engine before finally replacing it.

UltraK, thank you. This matter has gotten me flamed on once or twice, but all's well that ends well. I continue to pipe in on these "tick" threads hoping to help those with similar problems . . . and differentiate those noises erroneously labeled as "the tick."

Thanks man, I wouldn't mind the additive, but i feel as if thats just a bad aid.. almont like "hey let's put some motor honey in it"

But I still have to take it in to see what they want to do anyway, we will see. Still curious as to what is making the noise, whether its the bottom, or top end. Sounds like its coming from the bottom.

I don't know that they are still trying the additive fix -- remember it's been some time since they used it with mine and they probably know better now. When I said they would try less evasive solutions, I was thinking about a recent TSB where the timing cover and other parts were replaced (doesn't work for this particular noise, but they'll try).

Well they had it for two days, almost ruined my clutch to re-create the noise.

They told me to come pick it up that they don't know what it is, they hear it traveling through the block and for me to drive it until it gets louder. I told them that for one, its not going to get louder. Two, even if it did they already pin pointed it as far as they can externally. I want it fixed, and they didn't have my warranty re-instated like they said. So they are going to try and tell me that I'm basically screwed that that the tick has nothing to do with the #8 repair even though they had it down to the bare block. The car has been bone stock since the repair for the warranty purpose since i dished out $3000 on a repair that TICKS!! I didn't pay a few grand to get back a motor that isn't in like-new condition (and i had no other choice but to let the dealer fix it, they denied the warranty AFTER they had my block on a stand in a million pieces). Hell it smoked like hell when i took it in to begin with, but the sob didn't make a damn tick.

And i cant get anyone on the phone from ford with any common sense. I told one lady that i guess my window tint is going to cause my battery to go dead, she said.. "well that is a modification, i suppose anything is possible"

Stellar customer service
I know right.. lol.

Anyone have an idea what this is? Im still going to contact the dealer... again. I may try a basic oil change my self this weekend, i almost wonder if something is losing / getting weak oil pressure after an oil change or once warmed up. Possibly the cam gears? but sounds like its bottom end related.

I have it. Dropped the car off yesterday for the timing chain tensioner tsb. They say that'll fix it. I had enough when my car started missing at idle when the weather warmed up. Thought they were related, but tech says no and found 2 faulty coils from a power balance test.

But I have 3 distinguishable sounds. A regular sewing machine type tick from the front driver side head, and intermittent ticking/scratching from the drivers wheel area, and an high speed fluttering sound from the intake plenum area.

We'll see tomorrow what the tsb and coils fix...

Sounds about par for the course ... I even had Ford refuse to balance my wheels (the day after I bought the car) because I told them the vibration was more noticeable with Advancetrac off. I attempted to explain that this was due to Active Nibble Control being turned off and not dampening the vibrations from the out of balance wheel, but they insisted that the car is not covered under warranty when driven with Advancetrac Off. This was about when I decided that the Ford warranty is a total fucking joke and I was going to mod the car's balls off.

The fluttering noise is normal. There is a valve at the top of the engine that makes that noise. It's intermittent because the computer turns the valve off and on. I can't remember what that valve does, but it was a topic of conversation when these motors first came out in mid-2010 . . .

By the way...my ignitor tick magically disappeared about 5-6 days ago. Didn't do anything out of the ordinary except driving it harder than normal on the interstate. I've decided not to worry about it unless it returns or something goes ka-boom.

Got my car back today. Its worse than before and now I have to wait for an engineer to come look at it. Car pops and farts like a rice rocket.

Everyone on these forums, and at the dealerships, points to that TSB (timing cover, pulley, etc) as a fix for the "ignitor" tick . . . and it never works. It's always an engine replacement. I'm not even sure which tick that TSB is supposed to fix.
