15x8/10 and 17x7 Racestars for daily drivers?

Do any of you run that combo around town/daily driving? I live in Phoenix, where we don't get much rain, so wet performance isn't an issue, and I am kinda looking at the racestars as the lightweight, year round wheel choice... Looks like I could get wheels and tires for the cost of lightweight (enkei rpf01) rims alone...

Question is, how much do you give up handling wise? I've never ran 15" drag radials, but on the old car (04 mach1) I had 17" drag radials for the street and they were fine, and had 15" et drag slicks and they were not cool for street driving - waaaay too soft and mushy. Question is, where do the 15" drag radials fit? I imagine somewhere in between 17" DRs and 15" slicks, but are they closer to the bias ply slicks and have minivan handling or closer to the 17" DRs (had 315/35/17 nittos).

And just out of curiosity, can those of you who do have them post pics of the 15x8 and 15x10 and list the various tire sizes you run? My car only really has 2 boltons, a 3c torque converter and an offroad x pipe, so probably the smaller wheel will be enough, but I might give up the 3-4 lbs per wheel if the bigger ones look that much better... Esp if it sends the camaro guys crying. :D

If it matters, it's a non-brembo car.

I run Weld RT-S 15x10 and 17x4.5 all the time on my car. Granted it's not a daily driver. Yes handling is compromised but I also have my front sway bar removed.

And I come from a Mach 1 as well.

I have the 17x8 (or whatever the stock size is) up front 15x10 in the rear on a 325/50 555R and it does fine as a daily.

I have no swaybar either and I have to say, this car is a lot better than the old one with the swaybar removed. As long as it's not a white knuckle experience switching lanes at freeway speeds, I guess it's ok.

That looks really good! and that is one big boy tire.

Next question, doing my research I see everyone complaining about the lug nuts that come with these wheels. I see something about Mcgard nuts; Do you happen to have a part number that's needed?

And yes, I did just go on a forum full of dudes to ask about their nuts... :roflmao:

Hey Fosters! Remember me? :) Congrats on getting yourself a Coyote car.

Here's my Racestar setup:

I don't daily drive on them, but I could. I have put quite a few miles on the setup, as I drive it to the track with them on and occasionally out to play on the weekends.

17x7 front with Firestone 215/55-17s and 15x8 rears with 255/60-15 Mickey Thompsons. It really drives nice with these on.

How do you like your 3C? I have a 5C.

Hey man! that's the exact tire setup i was eyeballing, keeping the weight down. I thought the 5c would be a bit much and was back and forth between the 3c and the 4c; Chris recommended the 3c since I might be doing a paxton in a year or two down the road. After driving it, and seeing how docile it is, I honestly think I could have gone with the 5c and not had a problem. I think my tolerance for what's streetable and what isn't is a lot higher than some people - people who for some reason I listened to when I bought the "gigantic" 3500 stall...

we'll see how she does next racing season, maybe I'll get CircleD to restall it to a 5c afterall. What kind of 60' are you seeing?

I have 17x7 fronts and 15x10 rear polished racestars that I never got a chance to put on my car :(
Sadly they are going up for sale, along with the car.

My best has been a 1.59, at Cedar Falls last year. Since then I have added maybe 10hp and lost about 70-80lbs (55+lbs from me, lol) and the best its done this year is a 1.60 at Rock Falls. Best without the converter was a 1.93 (12.06 at 119). Ran a bunch of low 11.40s this year at 119-120. Boss manifold, offroad x-pipe, Airaid CAI, Mike Rousch E85 tune, 3.31 gear. Stock exhaust manifold/axleback, stock driveshaft, stock suspension except lowering springs and front swaybar removed.

63004 is the part number for the mcgard lugs I'm using. You can use the regular washers even on the unilug wheels. Makes it waaaay easier to put them on.

Good to see another Phoenix car. I have a 4C in the garage waiting to go on.

I thought about weld RTS 17/15s for daily but landed up grabbing some forgestars for so cheap I went that route. I have 16" drag radials for the track and even they feel squishy. It is doable, but I wouldn't want to daily drive or do a lot of highway on them. I have several friends with 15" DRs on their vettes and they said it gets a bit sketchy at 80+.

Hrm, I guess I'll have to see for myself. If they indeed get too bad, I'll probably get a pair of 17x9.5 or 18x10.5 and get some 'spensive DRs to go along and keep the 15s for the track. My daily commute is 4.3 miles, no freeway, but like 8 stop lights. Gotta be ready to open the can at a moment's notice, it's full of camaros around here. :whip:

You're gonna love the 4c. I'd recommend a Mike Rousch tune as well as many others with autos on this forum would :D

Already got a MR tune. Been running it for awhile. Once my other car is running I'll get the convertor swapped. I typically see more mustangs in the east valley than camaros.

If it is no freeway, you may not mind. Same here, commute is 4 miles just up cooper/stapley.

I've run them for dd before. 275/60/15 and 235/55/17. It isn't too bad. The 18" tires I have now are better but it wasn't that bad with the Racestars. It was more comfortable for sure.
