Thinking about buying a set of 8.5x18 Bullitt wheels ( 2008 Bullitt ) for my 2010 GT....
What do you guys think ? Good idea ..? Or shouldI stay with the 9 x19 GT Premium wheels.. The Bullitts look a little more like the wheels- back in the days ..
perhaps someone has the same set-up on a 2010 -2014 Mustang, and can post a foto

My issue with 8.5" wide rims is...... the biggest tire u can put on em is only 235 mm wide. A 255 mm wide tire on a 9" wide rim works superb. A 275 mm tire on a 9" rims sucks badly, feeling 'rubbery and un-responsive'....when used on the front. (A 275mm tire on a 10" rims works superb. A 285mm tire on a 10" rim works good too...both of those used on the front). I currently use a 285-40-18 on a 10" rim on the front.....and a 305-35-19 on a 10" rim on the rear. The 305 rear really should be on at least a 10.5" rim....and preferably a 11" rim.

255/45R18 is fine for 8.5” wheels too, and matches closely with the diameter to the factory 235/50R18. When my friend’s 08 Bullitt needed new skins that’s the size we got for him. Yes 9” would be ideal but for street use the 255/45 is fine on 8.5”.

@ fast Ed

Keep in mind .. I am living in Germany - and a 255/45/18 will not pass the TUV approvel
Because they only allow 245 on a 8.5 rim

At all

Thank you for your ideas / input

But the main reason for my question was not the tire size- main reason is the „ appearance / matching / optic / style … if I use a „ Bullitt „ rim on a 2010 GT . Because the body style changed …
The 2005-2009. Mustangs were more „ old school/ retro than the 2010 up Mustangs .

Who exactly is the...'TUV' ? Is this some left over group from Angela Merkel's storm troopers ? Do they run around inspecting tires at night with flashlights ? What happens if you get caught, do you get sent to.....'re-education camp' ?

IMHO, the 2010-'14 body is still "retro" enough for the Torq-thrust style wheels to look good. It has been done and there are multiple images floating around in cyber-space, although many of those images show 20s.
My issue with the appearance of the OE 18" Bullitt wheels is the offset (50mm? 51mm? I can't remember exactly) tucks them in too far and results in a fairly flat wheel face.
IMHO the AR Torq-thrust M is a better looking wheel in both design and fit and it would allow you to stay with 9" wides or even bump up to 10".

Your observation is very precise. It has become easier to change your gender than get a permission for other wheels from the TUV in new socialist Germany called "Ourdemocracy" ;)
Like Gavin Newsom on meth :)

Since AM became "Chief of the State " ..things become worse and more worse every day.
But the good news is... every day more citizen give a sh... for the "rules " the crazy gov creates.

@AHaze I run extension plates all round..20mm on each wheel. So even with the 8.5x18 with 500 mm backspace the wheel sits flush in the wheelhouse.

I do believe 245’s on 8.5’s are fine…? I’ve got that right now with none of the issues mentioned.

The TÜV thing has been around in Germany since decades. Not sure about their exact ”distribution” between being a government dept. and private company, but yes - they are bastards…They are in a position where they make the regulations and they decide whether an aftermarket part is legal for road use…or not. The german police just follow the regulations decided by TÜV.

Being from Sweden and just passing through Germany on a motorcycle with a very quiet but still not TÜV approved silencer might cost you a fortune. First a $1000 fine, then a $3000 ”transport fee” back to Sweden, since you are of course not allowed to drive it back from where they stopped you…Yes - they are bastards and I am happy we have got none of that shit - yet…

That is one of the great mysteries of the 1990th. How could it be that the in Moscow educated communist Angela was introduced into the first Young Global Leader class from the WEF together with Gates and planted into the administration of Helmut Kohl? Who pulled the strings behind it?

Angie was /is a mole. That is the only explanation for the disaster

about the Wheels... I went to my garage this morning...and looked at the Mustang...the rims /wheels... I think I will stay with the OEM 19 incher. Next spring I will buy a new set of tires , because the current tires are old.. DOT 0518 ..so it is time to say goodbye .

Will buy Firestone Roadhawk Sport ..the look good and Firestone combines with a Mustang

A set of 255/40R19s would look good on your '10 GT. They were actually a factory option.

...@ Dino Dino Bambino. 255/40 / 19. on the 9x19 GT Premium rim ? I have a 2010 prospect.. will do a "research " - if it was possible to order the size from the factory...the TUV will approve it.

Check out the tyre size in that road test. Yup, it's 255/40R19. Mine are 255/45R18.

Thank You Dino Dino Bambino for the pdf. I printed the pdf and will show the article to the TUV engineer ... So I think the 255/40/19 will pass the TUV approval .
