2008GT Mating with New Edge Mustang

Hello, want to start by thanking you in advance but my friend and I have decided that we hate ourselves enough to attempt to 3V swap his 2002 new edge. We started the build with a complete powertrain swap and just recently finished welding in the 2008 rear end, diff and all the other suspension tomfoolery. Now it is time for the wiring mess that comes with removing the 2002's v6 ecu and wiring in the 2008 ecu. Lucky for us the C175T& C175E connectors have stayed between the engine and computer.

Unlucky for us however, The C175B (50 pin) needs a lot of help. My personal best guess is that we will need the pinout for this connector and that of the ecu from the 2002, which I think I have already found and just splice the same connections in. My fear is that we will need to back trace the body connector within the s197 (and all of its 100 closest wire friends) and then do the same thing to the new edge and splice them into one evil looking wiring mess.

If anyone has the 50 pin C175B pinout or knows of a breakout kit that might help I will be much less pissed off at this project. Other ideas are definitely much appreciated. Thank you!

I don’t have answers to your questions, but I have my own questions! lol.

Why did you guys use the s197 rear end?

Did you use the s197 k member and front suspension? Can you post pictures of this work?

No worries, we chose to swap the rear end partially because we already had the scrap s197. The repair was necessary due to a completely stripped differential pinion but was preferred because of the wider wheelbase. The main challenges were the mounting of the struts and the upper differential mount. We had to weld on brackets to properly mount the new edge struts and use the stock springs from the '02. As for the upper bracket, the 2002 model uses two parts and the s197 only uses one centrally mounted one which we unbolted from the '08 and welded directly onto the frame of the '02 with one main bolt drilled in as well.

For the front end we are hoping to leave everything stock. From our research the stock GT motor mounts for a 2002 will bolt onto the GT s197 block. It is possible that we will need to replace the K member from the 02 with another 1999-2004 because the car was v6 before this swap. I think rather than replacing the k member we will either adapt the one from the '08 or modify the one in the '02.

As far as our wire problems go, we have decided to attempt a full internal wiring swap. Wish us lots of luck!

I don't have too many pictures, but I will attach what I have and take more later tonight.

Oh yeah, that’s alright looks like a ton of fun. If you get both of the k members out at the same time, do you think you could set them next to each other and compare mounting points between them?

I’ve daydreamed about using a s197 k member in my 98 so I can use an electric steering rack from a later s197.

Yeah, sure. We are hoping not to need to mess with the K bar at all but if we need to swap it I'll send that your way. Might be able to measure some stuff in the empty engine bays if you'd like. It does seem that the s197 k bar is significantly wider, but I haven't measured for sure yet.

Yeah, you boys are certifiably insane. Those are completely different electrical ECU's and subsystems. My hat's off to you for even attempting it.

Some terminal ID's are in the PCM manual for C175B under reference values. Here are pics but note these are for a 2006. Don't have 2008. Maybe someone else does.

It's been awhile since the last update but a lot of work has been done! The stock motor mounts for a 2V out of the new edge DOES bolt directly onto the 3V block. So, without modification to the K member, the 3V should physically fit into the engine bay.

As far as wiring goes, we decided not to cut it at the engine to body connection and ended up removing the entire interior wiring harness. It will be easier to plug in the s197 harness to the ecu and just wire in the lights to the existing hardware. This means we will be using the s197 fuse box and full wiring harness, i.e. custom routing and excessive modifications.

The biggest foreseeable challenge is wiring the external lighting into the '08 wiring harness, which will probably be more tedious than difficult, as well as splicing connections for the gauges and doors.

The gas pedal from the '08 automatic fits relatively nicely into the same place as the '02 manual, but it will likely need new drilled and tapped holes.

The new goal is to have the first start on August 8th and bring it to the tuning shop to remove the error codes for all the safety features that couldn't be transferred.

** if you plan on tackling a project similar to this just know that this is an unsafe vehicle, in a crash it is quite possible that the safety systems will not act correctly**
