2011-12 5.0 Issue Summary

(Just looking for a short summary only)

Would someone in the know please summarize the problems and potential work-arounds with these cars?

I have heard of a #8 piston issue... which may only be caused from an agressive tune...(advanced timing)

Piston slap or motor ticking when cold?

I have heard of a manual transmission issue and maybe clutch issue.

Are there any problems with the automatics?

no widespread issues with the autos, i think ive seen a post about someone complaining about thunking noises and another one had to have his transmission replaced because it wasn't shifting right, and I believe the reason was it wasn't built right from the factory, not a failure of any part.

Some have complained of a popping noise it the front suspension. I believe its a bushing issue. Someone correct me if im wrong.

My pressure plate bolts backed out. Pretty common issue with the manuals. Only issue I have had.

I am having an issue with the car's idle. Took it to the dealer and they said nothing is wrong. I researched a great deal and can't really find an answer. I own two of these cars, so I know it is not normal. It gets worse with a tune as well. Someone mentioned a tune may help, but it had a worse affect. Will be putting it back to stock and trying the dealer again soon. It also tends to power surge some between 2 and 3k. You can't tell the issue at idle until it warms up some.

I wouldn't call it common by any stretch of the imagination. As with the #8 issue, the affected cars vs. the amount of cars on the road is actually pretty small.

My 12 would throw a code with the BBR tune all the time. Now my 11 has not had that issue at all. Weird I know.

Mine had an idle issue too at first, but the FRPP tune seems to have fixed it. The power curve is nice and flat now whereas before it seemed a little herky-jerky.
