Hey guys, I'm expecting my axleback to come in sometime next week and after looking at a few install write ups I noticed there is a tab welded to the flange/clamp and your supposed to reuse the stock flange. My question is how do you go about removing the tab welded to the clamp and stock axleback?

It's easy, pull old mufflers and clamps off, in one piece. Put new mufflers with new clamps on. Depending on your axle backs you may need to drop the rear swaybar and panhard bar brace. I did when I put the corsas on. It took me about 30 minutes to do both sides on ramps.

TO answer your question, use a small cut off wheel to just cut the tab at the weld. This will allow you to use the factory clamp.

Cool. I thought I'd have to reuse the stock clamp which that's welded to the stock mufflers
Thanks!
I'm going with the Borla S type

as said, you can use a angle grinder with a cut off wheel, a Dremel with a cut off wheel, tin snips, or if you have none of the above available to you, you can bend the clamp back and forth until the small piece of metal breaks

Ok thanks. The stock axleback will still come off with te tab welded on right?
I haven't looked if it's just welded to the axle back pipe or over the axle pipes aswell

the clamp is attached to the muffler section, not the over the axle section

Oh ok cool. If I have to cut them off that once I pull them off the car it should be a piece of cake. I was worried I'd have to fit an angle grinder or deemel while the mufflers were still on the car which would be a pain in the ass

I cant believe they dont come with new clamps, for the price they should. Its not hard to remove the old clamps. Car should sound very good with those. You wont have to do anything that i said in my original reply since these mufflers slide in from the rear. We await videos.

I just bent mine back and forth a dozen times and it broke off .... I picked up a set of USED GT500 mufflers and the previous owner had removed them ... so I guess his new mufflers did not come with them either ..

+1 I just did this yesterday installing my GT500 cans. I twisted them until they fell off and removed the remaining material with some big pliers. Removing the new clamps from the AB allowed me to install the new mufflers without having to move the brace. With the clamps on I could not get the inside hangers to line up with the corresponding hole. I also bent both inside hangers slightly upward to make it even easier. I feel like I am driving a Mustang now...off road H next : D

^ thats what i did. just had to maneuver the stock muffler out without hitting the brace. also it would be better to have a helper where one can hold the over axle pipes up.i picked up a magnaflow competition for 100 bucks. def sounds good for the price i paid.

+1. I broke them off. New Mac axle back didn't come with new clamps so I had to reuse the factory clamps.

Flowmasters don't come with new clamps either. I just worked the tab back and forth till it broke off also.

For that price, they should install themselves. LOL

Haha agreed. When I ordered them with my local Mustang shop the guy thought it was a catback. When I told him it was just an axleback he was blown away lol

I looked at Borla's website and the online install manual says to reuse the stock clamps. Cheap bastards
Good news tho, it will be in for me to pickup tomorrow

Also, when you're swapping the exhaust, it helps to:
Remove the exhaust hanger retention bolts on the forward hangers.
Loosen the clamps near the H on the pipes.

These will help tremendously with removal / installation.
