Nice.. I haven't spun mine past 7K, and when the trans was pulled for a whining noise, the pressure plate bolts were all intact/tight. But, the clutch just engages very low to the floor, and I get audible knocking noises when shifting gears with the clutch depressed. That tells me that the disc is still engaged partially.

I will take a few thousanths off of the stock flywheel to clean it up if I get a new clutch.

Travis

Get a new flywheel that is matched to the clutch you purchase. I cant stress that point to you enough.

Also you do not want to machine the stock flywheel at all or you will have even more problems.

The twin disc clutches work alot better and last longer when a fresh flywheel is installed. Its like brake pads and rotors, the friction level between the two fresh parts is better then a worn or turned down rotor/flywheel. Also turning down a flywheel on a hydraulic clutch makes the hydraulic throwout bearing move further out and that can affect pedal feel.

Taking a few thousands off of the flywheel isn't going to make much difference in peddal feel if any at all. The hydraulic system will adjust accordingly. The clutch disc will wear more than the flywheel. If the several thousands were an issue, I doubt wrranty would be in effect for the clutch after a few thousand miles and that is simply not the case. With all due respect JJ, I disagree.

When I replaced my clutch, the stock flywheel looked like it came off a brand new car. I will post pics when I get back in town this weekend of the flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate.

BTW - my car had ~ 7K miles and quite a few track passes on it before replacing.

It is not suggested to resurface the flywheel and thats from Ford themselves. Most machine shops wont take off a few thousands they will take off around .012 to .020 just to be safe and IMHO thats too far. I know you can get away with it but when it comes to a high dollar clutch its worth the extra money to get the matching flywheel to avoid possible chatter or problems down the road. Our Mcleod in our car is working like a champ and I've abused the heck out of it.

I've replaced hundreds of clutches over the last 25 years and each hydraulic setup that does not have an adjustable slave or master cylinder rod does not suggest cutting the flywheel. GM hydraulic clutches being the worst.

It might boil down to a matter of preference but in my years of working on cars and trucks this is the conclusion I have come up with and its what we stick to here at our shop.

Thanks,

JJ

I just got my RXT put in with my new tranny. Pedal feel is VERY soft, much softer than stock. It feels a bit "sticky" I am hoping this will go away with break in. Anyone else running this clutch on the 2011?

I have had flywheels resurfaced and never had an issue. Granted I only revved that car to 6,500 vs, 7,500 where I currently am.

It is not a bad idea to have a SFI flywheel when shifting at the RPM's this car will handle however.

Got my car back with Exedy 700 and feels pretty good. Also the gears get in easier than before, i still feel a lil grinding in 2nd gear but a lot better than before. I guess a shifter like Steeda, Barton, or Soon MGW will help that a lot.

any clutches that give a firmer feel(make the pedal harder to press down)? I had an exedy in my ion redline and that thing worked awesome

Exedy 700 feel a lot more solid than the stock clutch. After a while i got used to but is very very touchy at the stop light, but us a nice clutch anyway...

is there anything like an exedy hypersingle out yet, atleast engagement and pedal effort wise? I like to work for my shift so to speak

My clutch died out on me yesterday and I had to be towed to the dealer...

Was shifting 2-3 at 3500rpm and the pedal went super soft and barely came up. After that it was nearly undriveable. Clutch engaged right at the bottom and was chattering like crazy

Wonder what broke this time...
