Indeed! I'd say this is in direct retaliation for the Z28. Thanks Chevy! Were finally getting some brakes and tires that are on par with the engine performance of these cars. Along with IRS, this thing is going to be an absolute monster. I'd still like to see more tire, but this could be a staggered setup too. 295 seems a little small to be going on an 11 inch wheel like you were suggesting Gmitch, but its at least a 10 and likely 10.5. Michelin lists the wheel size range for that tire at 10-11.5". Now imagine if this thing had a dry sump 5.2 litre voodoo engine making 550 NA HP with an 8000 rpm redline.

Tire's section width within 1" of wheel width is the general rule of thumb for anything desiring to have steering responiveness. A 295 is 11.61" and would not be as happy of a tire as it is on an 11 on an 18x10.5 (although this isn't as bad as some I've seen) or an 18x10. All I know is I will laugh if the SVT Mustang has the Corvettes in their sights for performance. That's a good pipe dream right?

Its gonna need more than that if it wants to beat the z/28 with 305's on all four corners. The Z/28 put down a 7:37.40 on the Nurburgring on a WET track, which is faster than a Porsche 911 Carrera S or a Lexus LFA.

And did so shod in R-Comps... the 2013 GT500 did it in 7:39.XX on street tires, down 40mm of tire up front, down 20mm of tire out back on 220 treadwear summer tires and in the damp.

This is true and similarly impressive, but the GT500 also has 162 horsepower on the Z/28, of which there are ample opportunities to exploit on the ring. Now imagine if the GT500 had the same tires and brakes as the camaro what kind of times could be put down. What is amusing to me is that with all the "weight reduction" measures the Z/28 did, its still only 50 lbs. Lighter Than a 2013 GT500.

It didn't start to rain till the end of the hot lap, but the track didn't look like it was completely dry before hand either. Now, the statement made that on a dry track it would've been 6 seconds faster is kind of out there.
