10 speed auto...meh. How about a new manual tranny to replace the crappy MT-82. Now THAT would get me excited.

And no more Grabber Blue? Tragic.

I rode in a SRT8 Jeep with the 9 speed. The acceleration was unlike anything I have ridden in. The 10 speed in the Mustang will be fantastic.

They sold a lot of V6, surprised they dropped it.

To rental companies maybe. I'm sure they sold way more Ecoboost and GT's than V6's. I can't find any sales numbers in a quick search though. Why anyone would choose the V6 given the meager up charge for the 2.3 EB and it's accompanying performance boost is beyond me.

This. We've sold WAY more EcoBoost than V6. We hardly stock V6 models.

Wonder what final ratio will now come with 10 speed, 2.73 again? There won't be any real performance gain over 6 speed auto as they will just make it a higher gear like 2.73 so stays on par with the 6 speed with the 3.15s. Just MPG gain, may react faster on downshift.

The 10R80 ratios are 4.70/2.99/2.15/1.80/1.52/1.28/1.00/0.85/0.69/0.64 which will keep the engine in the sweet spot longer. I think everything else being equal it'll accelerate faster and deliver better fuel economy. A win-win.

Either way will be interesting to see what happens.

That's a shit ton of shifting while driving, gotta think at some point it would get annoying? just a thought, never drove anything above 6 speeds.

I read that under light throttle it skips gears.

That 4.70 1st gear is pretty low. Does it use a 3.15 rear gear like the 6R80 ?

Only the V6 got the 2.73 rear gear...at least in the manual V6.

7 gears to get to the 1:1 ratio..then the last 3 are all OD gears. If it skips gears under light acceleration, sounds like a win-win ultimate auto tranny.

The WOT accel is probably good but its the downshifting that ends up being the problem. Cruising in 10th gear, go wot, now it has to decide which gear to pick, I doubt it will get it right most of the time.

The software will solve that issue. U have a choice of 9 gears to drop down into, and that will depend on what speed u are going, prior to wot.
Even if it's off by 1 gear, so what, gears 1-7 go from lowest to 1:1 ratio. They are all so close it becomes a non issue.
