Well Going to get new tires here next month. My M&H's 275/50/17 are toast.

Looking at Toyo's http://www.treadepot.com/tire/244050.html

$113 a tire plus shipping. Around $285 shipped for two. I needed a taller tire and I could spin the M&H pretty good on the street. So going a little wider and taller. Will it look like crap? Will it drive good DD? Will it get traction? We will find out.

Anyone running this size?:thumb2:

jeez man that's a 30" tall tire... will it even fit? IMHO way too tall and it'll kill your gear ratio

your spinning a 275/50r17 drag radial on the street with 301rwhp? what tire pressure are you at? you should have a little spin but then a normal drag radial will bite pretty good.

Yes sir! I thought it was odd too. Gear might be too much. 4.30 5spd

I had them at 15,17,22,24,28 psi and the track they did GREAT. But the street is different.

I need to kill the gear some on the high end. Doing more highway driving now and 3200-3300 at 80mph is not fun in my book.

take your gear down then, no need for a 30" tire...thats rediculous

28" is what most of the big power guys in here have...

2.64" taller

0.4" wider

1.32" more sidewall

64.8 revs per mile less.

Not too bad from the 28"

just stay with the 275/50R17...looks and should easily be capable of holding your power on the street

Well it doesnt and it's not tall enough. When I put it at 15-25 psi it spins. Do I need to do a video to show this? Not trying to be rude. Also when the pressure is lower the tire is shorter.

Very intelligent comment.

Just because I might want to try something different doesn't mean it's bad or wrong. What if no one tried to put a 15 inch wheel on the s197? FAIL.... Its all trial and error.

Also what I will do before ordering is do some measuring and pictures to see how tall the tire will really be on the car AND will it fill the gap or look like a monster truck. No harm in trying. I will use a jack and tape measure and maybe some Photoshop just to get a preview.

Your going from a drag radial to a truck/suv stree tire... and just how do you expect them to get better traction on the street???
You might lower your rpms in 5th at 80mph by 200-300rpm. Not to mention they are gonna ride horrible, add weight and hurt gas mileage.

Of course people are gonna go to a 15'' race wheel it drops weight and increases et...

You WILL loose performance with those truck tires.
4.30s on the street are always gonna have traction issues, going to a 30" tall tire is not the solution.

Whatever floats your boat, its your car.

Great post! Thats better :thumb2:

Honestly I wish I could find 20 inch wheels for a decent price and just throw on a 28inch tall tire on those because of the stiffer sidewall the tire is actually 28". Although spinning a tire fast enough will make it stretch.... One thing I overlooked is how much RPM will I really save. Good point and I need to do some math.

Thanks

Ok so I did the math.

71MPH on 28" at 2500rpm

76MPH on 30" at 2500rpm

I'm in the 60's for MPH in 2500rpm with the Dr's. So maybe if I switch to a regular tire 275/50/17 that would be a better choice.

To the guy above thanks for pointing out the 200-300 rpm idea.
