3.15 gears :(-

Just found out my 2011 5.0 has 3.15 gears. How bad is this performance wise. Will going to a higher gear make that much of a difference?

Ive been washing videos on what these cars will do on a 1/4 mile. How much will i be off having these gears?

I'd check again. 3.31, 3.55 and 3.73 should be the only options.

rear end gear for auto is 315 the 1st gear ratio is 417

My 2011 has 3.15s and it's plenty quick.

It's not that hard to swap gears, though. I'm thinking of going with 3.55s for a good balance of performance and fuel economy.

i installed a set of 3.90's in my car and didn't really care for them so i put in a set of 3'55's and love them. that would be my suggestion for a DD and little track time. some of the faster n/a auto cars seem to be using 4.10-4.30.

i put 4.10's in my auto and love them... car is a monster off the line. and i still average 24 mpg on the highway.

I've got factory 3.73's and it's insane from a dig. I average 27 mpg on the highway and 20 in the city.

The auto is geared for the lower rear end, it is not at a disadvantage until 3 or 4th gear versus a manual. Putting 4.10s in the new 6sd auto is just overkill.

OP....is your car an automatic or stick?

My next Mustang will likely be an 11+ 5.0 with an automatic. First thing I will do is 3.73's (or 3.90's), a tune and a torque convertor. I'll swap my current Racestars straight to it.

Add just the tiniest bit of power and your first gear is useless, thinking FI, forget about it.

+1 on the 3.15 in an auto. Got a set of 3.55's to install if I can find a decent shop that won't rape me for the install.

I've been quoted around $350 local to install them. Prolly just nite the bullet and get them done. What can I expect with the new gearing?

$200 is the lowest I've heard, $250 is the lowest in my parts from someone I trust. Remember, if you are an auto you will need a PCM re-calibration via ford or your aftermarket tuner.
