3.73 or 4.10 Gears? Help Me Out....

Based on mods and daily driving, what gears do you think are best for me?

4.10. Had them on my 07 with a 125 shot and although I did have to stay alert not to bang off the rev-limiter in first when coming out of a holeshot, they were the single best mod. Before I trade the car, I have up against a gen5 SS camaro, and kept up on a nitrous tune WITHOUT nitrous (forgot to open the fucking bottle).

Going from 3.55s to 3.73s would be a waste of time in my opinion. I went from 3.31s to 4.10s and loved the difference, all though I ran a 28 tall tire also. Search for this topic, I am sure you will find numerous threads on the subject as this has been beaten to death many times.

I agree 100%. I did it went from 3.55's to 3.73's, because I was afraid the 4.10's would be too much on the freeway. Was I ever mistaken, should have done 4.10's from the start. IMHO they make the car feel lighter, more responsive in any gear. Can't really notice the increased r.p.m. at 80.
So far only downside to 4.10's is that they make me realize I wasted money on the 3.73's.

I've got 4.10's with my Paxton now and it's way overkill, IMO.
Gearing is all a matter of personal preference, especially when you're talking about such slight changes (3.55, 3.73, 3.90, etc).
But my first gear is almost unusable. The car screams bloody murder out of the hole but doesn't go anywhere. For a street car, FI + 4.10's' (or higher) is not an efficient setup.

Friend has 3:90's and a centri-supercharger and that is probably the best setup for the car.

4.10s are great. Even with the whipple I have never regretted my decision to go with such an aggressive gear. 1st gear does flash by but that's not a bad thing. Even freeway driving isn't that bad. Now gas mileage on the other hand.....

got the 4.10's installed today, gotta take it easy for 3 heat cylcles, and 400 miles....but i love them, and rpms a little higher at 55mph but definitely not that bad...

also my toe on the right axle is off, and that axle was hard to get in and out..he thinks my tube is a little tweaked and that it causing a little bit of extra heat in the rear gear as when he removed the old 3.55 gear it has some burnt and gummy oil....

however it had 86k on it....alsouse royal purple 70w140....

Wow I can't believe this thread is still going.

Alot of autos go with the 3.73s because stock gearing is 3.31--a significant difference.

Like Don, I ran 4.10s with 604 rwhp whipple, and yes, with a street tire you are wasting your time and money. If you plan on continuing to run a street tire I wouldn't even bother changing the gearing.

Now with a DR on the track, no question 4.10s with a 28 tall tire works the best if your in the 500-600 rwhp range and have a twinscrew. Centri- probably more gearing. Turbo, definitely less gearing. Once your in the 700-800, less gearing actually works better (especially if you are going turbo).

In the end there is no right answer for all combos, it depends on each situation, which is why we have 1 million threads on this subject.

You need to have a plan, think down the road, and do this once. I see you got the 4.10s, hopefully it works out for you, I would have done the same thing. IMO, you made the right choice.
