Here's the scoop...

My service manager is off today, so I called Springfield Ford myself. After going through a couple different people I was directed to the person who handles "heavy engine repair". I spoke to Danny in service at Springfield Ford. They currently have no Mustangs in for any sort of engine repair. One month ago they did replace a motor in a 5.0L. He pulled up the repair order and gave me details on it. That particular vehicle was a rental car. It came in for a random misfire. They could never pinpoint the specific cylinder. Compression and leak down tests came back good. PCM tests showed unaltered. After replacing all spark plugs, all injectors, and the fuel rail the misfire was still present. Tech hotline recommended and approved an engine replacement. A new crate motor from Ford was installed, problem solved and vehicle sent on its way.

That is the ONLY Mustang they've had for any sort of engine related concerns.

I think that settles that.

It would be very cool if someone in that area would go by that dealer and confirm this. I'm not saying you're lying popeye, so please don't take it that way. I appreciate your passing along the info. However, it would really help to add some legitimacy to this thread.

You guys are increadible,,,The tuner in question hates these forums and all the BS on them. I didn't want to flip his name out there. This is confirmed and there is an issue with #8.

If you have been following this #8 problem, you know how much crap has been spread! The first people to claim this said there cars were stock and bitched about Ford. All were found to be lier's!!!! They were running 10's in the 1/4, and blew them at the track. WE found there post ,and videos before they deleted them. We now know there is an oil problem too. Dealership i am at has had only 1 blown 5.0, and it was because of the owner installing a S/C the day after he bought it. And he F**it up. BTW we have 2 locations and sell a lot of Mustangs. WE just want solid info, and if Ford is keeping this Hush Hush, why is an aftermarket tuner involved?

Edit: For anyone wondering, he said it was an automatic, as it should be for a rental car.

Yeah Popeye, we're in no way blaiming you for this. I personally think through word of mouth, the engine replacement they did have turned into several and people started to hear what they wanted to hear instead of what actually happened.

It's no different than the "wisper game".

Yes it would be interesting. Could be the tuner just taking the pressure off of him and saying that this is a problem of the stock parts not a tune.

Even if it was Lund, there's the possibility he was simply given bad information from somone else.

I agree to an extent, in stock form they are 100% fine but with a tune that may be off, or some tool running 87 or 89 with an aggressive 93 tune they are a grenade. seems they are a bit limp wristed and Ford knows this, you would think if they are detonating that bad they would blow a head gasket rather than eat the piston....

I also agree. I think that cylinder is a hot spot by design. While it works for stock cars, slightly modded cars might be on the egde. I'm still of the opinion some sort of cooling mod may clear this up.

And these motors, modulars included, don't generally blow head gaskets. I've melted down a few pistons and haven't had any gasket failures. They're actually really good gaskets and have good clamping force.
