3 valve lash adjuster removal

Whats the correct part number for the on engine lash adjuster removal tool? I can't seem to get a solid answer from the internet. Keep showing the 2 valve (inexpensive) tool, as being compatible, then show the correct tool. I am installing cams and that seems to be the easiest and fastesr way of doing so. Also if anyone has other ways of doing the removal please let me know thank in advance. Also new to the forum so forgive me if theres already a write up, if so I'll use that

Im not sure why a 2v compressor wouldnt work but if they make one specifically for the 3v there must be a reason.

What cams are you installing? How many miles are on the motor?

I saw one write up on google where the guy used a 2 valve but had to modify the tool and part of the head. I'm install the comp cams xfi stage 1 nsr, nothing real wild. And car has 92k regular maintenance adult owned. Just CAI exhaust and tune. But have the cams and ford intake. Also engine has lifetime warranty through dealership I bought it from, so gonna be saving my old parts lol

The tool is kinda unwieldy and I thought it was a PIA to use. When I did my install I ended up just swapping cams with the followers in on the second side. Out of curiosity, why the stage 1 cams? Why not stage 2? And is it a stick or auto?

Ditto what 07Boss said. Except I just removed the 2-3 followers with tension on them and then popped them in with a big flat screwdriver after the cam was bolted down.

The Ford tool is made by Rotunda. 2v and 3v tools are different in part because they use the cam for support. The cam lobes are spaced differently on the 2v and 3v. There are also differences with the foot due to head design and access to the valve spring retainers.


The correct name is Valve Spring Compressor Tool.

I've used both the Freedom Racing and Ford Rotunda tools. Both have advantages and drawbacks.

The Ford tool will work just fine as is for removing the lash adjusters. It needs a threaded coupler and bolt extension for removing valve springs.

The Freedom Racing tool will work just fine as is but it requires a few extra steps when removing and installing valve springs. Some people don't like it for this reason. Once you get a rhythm down it's actually a little faster than the Rotunda tool but you have to think about the differences between installing and removing the valve spring.

A google search for "Ford 3 valve spring compressor" should bring up the tools and their part numbers.

I guess you're removing cam followers, not lash adjusters for a cam swap. You won't need the tool if you're only changing cams and not valve springs.
