I think I read somewhere that the 3V is the lightest V8 Ford has ever made. Is that right? I like open track running and autocross so I don't want to add weight up front. What power package has anyone tried that they might recommend? How high can you rev a stock engine? Do you need long tube headers if you do cams and an intake? I have an Bullitt intake and underdrive pulleys, gears and a driveshaft. I'm happy with the car, just looking for the next step, you know!

The engine is pretty light. Only around 420lbs fully dressed. If you get h/c/i you definitely need longtubes to get all the new incoming air out of the chambers. Otherwise the gains will be minimal. You've gotten plenty of good info on this thread already.

Yeah I spent alot of coin for my Big Bore Stroker and maybe am putting down 360-370 in my Marauder.....if I had to do over Aluminator and Vortech and call it a day. Now I gotta wait a couple more years to get the blower. Everything at the track is SC and puttin down POWA....

Realistcly this combo without long tubes isn't going anywhere far

No cold air no exhaust mods whatsoever realistically this can't be a bolt on 100hp at the crank you're missing too many key components no underdrive pulley, cai, headers, x pipe, high flows, no way this is a justified 3k. Forced air induction supercharge that instead.

That page says, "So you have your cold air intake, tuner, and great sounding mufflers installed. You may have even installed a new set of headers and an x-pipe. Now your scratching your head wondering what you want to do next."

I assume the advertised power levels are with a good custom tune and other supporting modifications.

That same combo(the parts in that package along with intake and headers) in the recent magazine article that has been talked about so much here recently made about 420 HP at the flywheel.

You could probably piece a better kit for around the same price.

If you don't get the powder coated valve covers, the kit is about $3550. What combination of heads, cams, intake manifold, and throttle body can you get for less than that which will make more power?

Intake Manifold; C&L: $CALL for price!
Throttle Body; FRPP: $550-ish.

You're at about the same price actually. Give or take $100. However, you'll have much more usable power on hand.

Hey SD my problem is I live in Cali man I buckled on the cams I went GT40s then with my new setup FR500; my compression is set to 10.5:1 so hoping to see 370+ given my mods (if not Golden Gate here I come) dunno man this freakin hobby is killing me sometimes trying to be CARB approved and pass Cali smog is costing me $$$$. Maybe need to find a friend of a friend....and stop fooling around.

BTW, your right on about MP; John did build a bad ass NA strip setup putting down 537rwhp on a BBS 4v.

Maybe need to move sooner...lol I envy you all who dont have to deal with CALI smog laws and CARB.
