Sorry for the long read...

Sunday was some amazing weather so I figured it would be good to go back to the track and see what she puts down. The only chnage this time time to the car was the new wheels and tires. Tires are 275/40 Continental ExtremeContact DW. Like I said before the weather was awaesome. I believe it was 60* out and only 30% humidity.

Now I'll get to my issue I think I have in a second but I'm pretty happy with the times. It was so packed there today over at SCR that I didn't make my first run until an hour and 45 minutes after I got there. But I did meet a few other guys with 5.0's, all auto btw, so that was cool to talk with them. There were 2 5.0's there with the following mods and nothing more that were running 12.1 and 12.2's.

GB 5.0: Pro Cal tune, stock intake, FR Xpipe(I think) and ET streets. 12.1
Black 5.0: JMS Tune, stock intake, OR X, BBR lca and NT555's 12.2

Basically just a tune for the most part is the way I see it and the were running low low 12's! Jeezums... Now I went expecting 12.5's maybe but low 12's wow. Now when I heard that I was excited because I was like awesome! All this good weather and maybe good track prep and I'll be right with them. Not quite. Oh I did finally break 1.9 60fts! Yay! Guess those 275's help quite I bit.

My passes as follows:
1st: 12.9 @ 112(?) 1.9 60ft
2nd: 12.3 @ 114.8 1.9 60ft
3rd: 12.4 @ 113 1.9 60ft

BBR Vendor Peeps read below please!!!
Now to get where I think I may be having issues with my tune. If you remember from my last time I went out I had serious issues with traction when the car would shift to 2nd. The initial launch was fine but as soon as 2nd would come it would spin, the ass end would lose traction and start fish tailing some and I would have to let out the gas, let it recover and then get back on it. I figured it was the track prep, tires and power of the car. Well, I had the same 2nd gear issues this time I went out. The first pass was really bad. I really think its something in the tune as I talked to the other guys there and they said they weren't experiencing anything like that with their cars. They would just punch the gas and go. No 2nd gear spin or anything. I don't know if its maybe the shift pressure, doesn't feel hard to me compared to my 07' I had but who knows. Of course the tune is locked down so I can't play with that (lower it). I will say this though, even on the street at times it does seem to hit into 2nd kind of hard. Edit: Wanted to elaborate that this isn't going WOT either. It'll do this on the street even at 1/2 throttle or lower sometimes. Anyone is welcomed to let me know what ya think. And of course thank you S197 for your help.

12.3 doesn't seem too bad considering your 60' time. Are those tires drag radials? If not, there is your difference.

I def agree with you on that considering my best time stock was 13.3, granted that was hot and humid weather. The issue I have with it is that 2nd gear spinning issue. Has happened ever since the tune. Not bashing BBR in anyway but seeing as other 5.0's at the track had similar mods, besides their tuner, weren't having that issue.

yeah, I don't know those tires, but if they are street tires, you are SOL. It doesn't have anything to do with the tune, lol.

Too bad, I was hoping for an opportunity to bash BBR for Greg, lol.

OP why not just call BBR and request a new tune with the second gear shift softened up some? In about 5 minutes Chris could write a new tune that would take care of the issue. :headscratch:

Your issue is traction, plain and simple. I experienced the same thing after putting the blower on my car and spent six months working on getting the power to the ground. You need better shocks, better tires and better control arms (IMO).

Will be soon. I hate headaches too...

Appreciate the advice and na I think gtmiller1001 http://www.s197forum.com/forum/member.php?u=7954has the BBR hate covered.. lol

So on street tires you get spin?

Samsung Galaxy 2-better then your iPhone..

I see what you did there...^^

Will be talking with BBR to see if they could soften up the 1-2 shift. But come one guys, give a little more credit than that. I know I'm not the most experienced drag guy out there and I know everyone likes to jump on the hater band wagon when someone asks such a simple and sometimes what seems to be a dumb question. My main thing was seeing the other 5.0's there (there were 5 of us btw, the other 2, I didn't know their mods) that were almost close in mods to me the one in particular with those NT555's and not having the slip issue I'm experiencing. NT555's are street tires as well but what do I know.

Appreciate it. A few of the guys around here are going through that right now too. I think its a little of both traction and the tune maybe *MAYBE* being too aggressive is what I was getting at here. I was looking to see who might have experienced the same issues where maybe their initial 1-2 shift was like mine or the likes and needed to turn it down a tad or maybe had another issue going on.

Again appreciate yalls advice. Hope yall enjoyed the pictures.

Those are just standard soft compound street tires. They are not drag radials. So that is more than likely the reason for minimal traction. The 1-2 shift is aggressive, but not overbearing. These tunes where written based off my car during the time frame I was racing in factory stock.

When my car was 100% stock with the exception of adding this tune into my car, I went from the 13.30@106mph range to the 12.20@113mph range. So, that appears to be spot on with your car. I too was also just running the stock tires. When I put on a 15" drag radial, I dropped 2 more tenths. So, hopefully this helps out. If you do want us to adjust the shift pressure for you, to make it not as aggressive at WOT, we'll be more than happy to do so. But I do believe that a set of sticker tires will help you and once you get those on there, you're going to LOVE the way it shifts into 2nd.

Give me a shout. We'll go over it though.

Get some real tires for the tarck and the issue will be fixed. Hell I am an auto with a blower and don't have tire spin going to 2nd. But I also run DR's all the time.

Also the other guys was on better tires as well. The 555's are better for grip then your Continental ExtremeContact DW

Talked with John (great guy:thumb:) and answered all of my questions and helped me with the direction to go with the car. Thanks again John for your time!

If anyone's wondering we'll probably be dialing down the 1-2 shift a tad as well as going over some datalogs, just for peace of mind. Been wanting to do that for a while now.

My tuned 5.0 had similiar issues on the stock tires, second gear hit hard the car would spin real bad, then fall on its face like the the trans was looking for a gear, find it then take off.

I was told by my tuner it was traction related, so I bought some 18x10s and new style Nittos...WOW, I think I can get an 11.9 outta this thing

Question for you, when did you ever race your car in Factory Stock? Looking over the ladders from every event last year, I do see where you entered 2 events but were a no show for first round both times. So either their data is wrong, or you never raced in Factory Stock. Which is it?
