Jimbo this is the one you got? For your m90 you had to cut the top ears off too? I know mine isnt gonna last forever, might just order this one and be ready.

Yes, this is the one. Yes the ears have to be cut off if a M90 used. Easiest and safest way to cut the ears off, is to 1st put a plastic bag over the entire new 2010 alternator, then tape it good... then slice off the 2 x ears, then any sanding, filing, grinding etc. The bag ensures nothing gets into the alternator cooling slots. The 2010 alternator is a 3 phase type
(05-09 cars got the single phase types)..and is a direct drop in for the 05-09 cars.

I use that silver coloured high temp paint on my 4 x brake calipers,...made by duplicolor... ( sold by AM). I had loads of it left, so used it on my alternator. It came out really good, and looks a helluva lot better than the oem finish..which really looked like shit.

Those of you that ended up with the 09-10 alternator, have you had high draw systems? For example, I have a return fuel system so the two pumps running continuously probably do a number on my electrical system. Thoughts? I just ordered the
9R3Z10346B



as my 06 stock one finally went out at 92k miles. I hope the new one works well for my setup.

For example, I have a return fuel system so the two pumps running continuously probably do a number on my electrical system. Thoughts? I just ordered the 9R3Z10346B as my 06 stock one finally went out at 92k miles. I hope the new one works well for my setup.
I was kind of wondering the same thing myself, as I have a triple pump setup due to my added E85 flow requirements.

Yea exactly! You have another maybe 20amp draw over what I have. My return fuel system has been in the car for 2 years and i just now had issues. My alternator was the original and 10 years old.

It was never an issue at 21psi @1000+ HP, but I also didn't have the stereo going and all that. I'm also corrected for altitude. I think the uncorrected power was 950rwhp. Still, you would think if anything would tax the stock alternator, that would...

and why would that be an issue? Its not because you are at 21 psi that the alt spins faster or more power is drawn. Well maybe the fuel system.

See post #43. He has a triple pump setup. A clamp on DC ammeter will indicate the total max current being drawn. Then increase the load some more by incrementally turning on more and more items, like AC + fan /stereo /running lights /headlights /foglights /rear window defroster etc, etc.

I see the oem alternator in my 2011 ford fusion is a 160A unit. In some one off applications, I have seen where 2-4 alternators were being spun, with the outputs in parallel. But that was for increased current capacity for high powered RF amplifiers in trucks etc.

I believe Philip is saying that at 21psi the return style fuel system draws no more on the battery system than at Idle.

To be honest, I really had not considered that. I was thinking about the variable voltage setup in a returnless system. Philip is correct, and I had a brain fart, lol.
