Aluminum Anodizing

Decided to add anodized finishes to our line of painting and coatings. I can do small cast, machined and billet pieces such as interior trim, knobs, tools, caps, bov and wastgate housing etc.


I have a matt charcoal finish, a copper gloss and the gold titanium. Also have black, green and blue here going to be doing some more stuff here soon. The possibilities are really endless as I can do matt or gloss and any shade from dark to light.

An wrench I did in the gold finish, this i the darker matt I can do it lighter and glossier as well.

Heres a look at the charcoal grey finish before sealing and buffing.

I have black here just havent anodzied anything with it yet. Its been cold out in the garage and you have to keep the solutions and sealants up to certain temps. I need to get some more submersible tank heaters and I will be doing some samples in black, green and blue.

Yeah I like the look, looks just like a shiny new penny. I want to try mixing some gold and copper for a bronze/pewter look.

What about lug nuts? Do you think the coating is durable enough to last a little while at least? I have the Morose 5/8" drive stud kit on the back of my car. The lug nuts are bare metal and rust quickly. This may be a good option.

Yes there are processes for ferrous metals but these are not as common.

For carbon steel and SS you are better off powdercoating.

I believe Jeremy's post was to offer aluminum anodizing.

I tried powder coating the lug nuts. The coating ended up being too thick. I am working with a tight tolerance with this application. Anodizing steel is not unheard of.

I can get aluminum lug nuts. But the shoulder is too wide. So I would have to machine them and then get them re coated. So figured I would ask if this was something they could do or had experience with.

Just so you can see what I am dealing with, here is a pic of the wheel and ARP's small diameter lug nuts.

It's a complete different process to do hardware like that. Im not setup for that type of anodzing, all I can do is aluminum and titanium right now. Its taken alot of practice and patience to get everything setup and working. It's alot of prep work as well, clean, de-grease, de-smut, de-oxidize, then anodizing, dying, sealing and finishing/buffing. And this is one of the easiest methods to anodzie lol

For hardware like that, your best option would be Cadmium or zinc plating. It can be done in Black, yellow, or clear, which are the 3 I do in my shop. I get lots of restoration jobs for original factory finishes.
