I know of one guy that thought 4.56's were a good choice for the MT82 lol.
I gonna tell you the same thing I told you 3 years ago. I liked the 4.56's in my '11 GT MT-82. If the OP is okay going into 5th gear at the dragstrip, then 4.10's, 4.30's, and 4.56's will all do the trick. The 4.56's didn't make my '11 GT any quicker in the 1/4 mile, but it didn't slow it down either. And, I liked it much better on the street for daily driving with the 4.56's vs the factory 3.73's that my '11 came with.
He has 4.10's now with his auto 6R80 and can't figure out why everyone with less gear is faster than him.
I
KNOW you're not talking about me. My '14 GT 6R80 race weight is 3860 lbs and it runs 11.60's all day and traps in the 117-118 mph range. The vast majority of faster 6R80's with less gear are gutted, lightweight cars weighing hundreds of pounds less than my car, so their edge at the track has NOTHING to do with gear choice, and everything to do with hp to weight ratios.
Has anybody actually ran 4.10's with an mt-82 car? I already know I'll cross the traps in 5th, and I'm strangely okay with that. I'm more concerned with day to day living. I normally drive around 70mph, which is around 1900rpm. It'd be about 2300-2400ish after? That doesn't sound unlivable.
My '11 GT MT-82 was a daily driver that was quite enjoyable to drive day to day with 4.56's. I had to trap in 5th - as you've pointed out about the 4.10's - but I was okay with that, too. I ran a taller drag radial (28"), so if you're going to run something shorter, then the 4.10 (or 4.30) would be an equivalent choice.
If you're looking to be quicker in the 1/4 mile, there are better mods out there than steep gears with the MT-82 cars, but the steeper gears won't hurt your 1/4 mile times and they are very entertaining to drive on the street. I always felt the 3.73's (or 3.31/3.55's) were sluggish feeling on the street. So, get some opinions on both sides of the fence. Better yet, see if you can ride in (or drive) any MT-82's with the gears you're considering, then do what makes you happy.
