I'm probably going to be keeping mine at this point. As time goes by it keeps losing value and the GT500 I was thinking about getting into isn't dropping value at the same rate. So if I want more power it makes the most financial sense to just stick with what is paid for.

I lost interest when I wasn't driving it. Then I got behind the wheel and realized how much of a turd it was, so back to modding!

Im going on 8 yrs with my 05, and I still enjoy reading the forums and keeping up with what's going on, but my car is done... no more money going into it, and I do drive it less.... I think 1/2 the fun is researching what you want to do next and installing the parts. I mostly drive to car shows/events which is look forward to very much. Not selling anytime soon.

Last 3 years got the track bug & haven't been bored since. Always seems to be something to upgrade for track purposes. Shows and cruises are nice but there's nothing like getting behind the wheel at the local track.

I hate wrenching alone. I have a ton of mods waiting to be installed, but doing it solo sucks. So when I get really bored I work on it.

I've had my 12 for almost 2 years now and nearly 16k$ in parts and labor. Nearly everything except built motor and trans has been done to the car. I'd still like to do gt500 rear, rough side splitters and a boss steering wheel. Other than that it has everything I'd like to do to it. I've bought a miata and am now building it for the road track. Haven't put a dime in my mustang in nearly 6 months and I've one driven it a 3-4 times in past couple months. It'll probably stay in its current state til I finish nursing school then ill put a aluminator and Lund twins in. Shoot for 850+whp and she'll be a done garage queen that ill show and race when I have time. She'll also need a cage at some point

RIP - You will be missed
Here lately I've been looking at the mods coming out for these cars and I think either they are A) extremely tacky B) too expensive C) just down right fugly D) all of the above... Don't know if thats a sign of losing interest in the car, or me just hating on the mustang aftermarket.
Sounds more like the latter, and I understand it. I never was the least bit interested in doing "appearance" mods myself, and I think that at best they tend to look "dated" a few years down the road.

For me, the powertrain was "done" once the cold air & tune went on. That said, any future need for parts replacement could turn into mod/upgrade opportunities.

The easy part of the suspension mod path has also been done. What's left needs more thought and a little custom work more than it needs more parts just thrown at it willy-nilly. Mod slowly, re-mod rarely.

The rest of any "mod money fund" gets to cover consumables such as tires and on my own "driver mod". While it's fun to plan and install mods, the real smiles come when you're driving it like you want to be driving it. Sometimes just driving it is reward enough.

LOL, I DD a 4 door jeep wrangler. So my mustang feels like a rocket ship. My main disgust is with the mustang aftermarket. Kind of sad when i want to put stock ford parts(boss 302 etc) on my car rather than aftermarket shit because its such garbage.

I can see some of what you're saying, at least with appearance mods based on the way things have been going with OEM design. I look at that as both a knock on the aftermarket and props to Ford. OEM's really stepped up their game since the '05 Mustang came out, and its a lot harder for the aftermarket to make something that looks nicer than OEM.

An example: I look at this aftermarket shifter bezel, which doesn't seem to flow very well with the rest of the interior, it stands out as aftermarket stick-on

And this one by Ford, which looks a lot sleeker and works with a nearly stock interior:

But that said, you, the modder, can come up with a grand design for your car to make an aftermarket part work for you (or pick the part that works for your design). Like this blocky bezel done with the brushed metal shift knob:

Its just as blocky as the first one, but because its got the shifter ball and the billet HVAC knobs to tie it in, it works.

What bugs me about these shifter bezels (as an example of aftermarket) is that Ford seems to be the only one that makes a total replacement part. How friggin expensive can it be to make one that snaps into place with a leather or imitation leather boot? A total replacement would look a lot better because they wouldn't have to make something that has to fit over the OEM boot. Its kind of like that for a lot of aftermarket parts, a lot of them don't seem to have the same OEM fittment.

Only thing that bugs me about the aftermarket is the expense. The prices for 05-10 stuff haven't seemed to drop that much and if you look at parts for older mustangs it seems to be quite a great deal cheaper. My friend buys stuff for his '74 dart and it always pisses me off how much cheaper everything is for that old thing.

gizmo5 has. Oh wait...

:roflmao:

IMO, my car has a goal I wanted it to be at, and I'm almost there. Once I reach that goal, I will enjoy her, drive and smile all day, and spend all my money on gas and tires.

When I lose interest, I will just change direction, put a cage in it, and build the motor.

ugh, seeing these pictures makes me miss my 2008 GT. I loved the interior of that car. I like the dash of the 10+, but i like the middle section(where your arm goes) on the 05-09 better. Don't know why.

But yea, judging from those pictures is a prime example how the aftermarket just seems to be "thrown together" with no thought.

But, as this thread goes on... I did do a mod *FOR* the mustang today. I started on the garage cleaning, and getting my tools situated in the new garage. Also installed new lighting! :thumb2:

Hopefully they don't hassle me over the mods and just fix it. After that I will install a new shifter, SS clutch line, and fluid. If that doesn't cure the transmission issues I might want out of my car. I bought it with the sole purpose of having a bolt on car quick daily that I could beat on left and right. If its not up to the task I need to move on.

Very bored with my car. Got married almost a year ago, and I just can't justify buying hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of parts for a car. Not that the wife has any real problem with it, but it's just not a responsible way to spend our money. Most of my free time and money goes to golf now anyway. I've thought about selling and buying a little civic or focus just because they are cheap and easy but haven't been able to bring myself to it yet.

golf's not much cheaper....lol
