I think its only for 2v since the mounts would be spread further apart and also the exhaust valve is center mounted. I would be nice if someone made one that mounted like this with a slide bar in the center to move to compressor between the valves or something.

Have you tried the rotunda/Ford one modded to reach?

You referring to the one with the fingers that grab the cam similar to the freedom tool? No have not used one of those. I will just machine a plate similar to the one I listed here that will reach the exhaust valve also. Simple to do, just take a little time to make

Yeah, i found more info on it and it is for 2v. That is what it looked like. I will make one similar only for a 3v. think I actually have a day off this Memorial Day and will crank one out if I am not too sick of the car by then lol

I want to shoot myself every time I use the freedom tool. The C-clamp tool I made a long time ago is a pita also

I borrowed the Freedom tool when I did cams and felt the same way. I ended up using it on one rocker that I couldn't get in place doing it the old fashioned way (popping it into place with a screwdriver). The Freedom 'instructional' video doesn't show a fucking thing, either.

i lol'd the first time I saw the video too. Tool is not bad removing shit, just a pita to install the valve stem locks with it (next to impossible without two people and a lot of patience/luck). Tool was not meant for installing valves lol

If you are going to machine one, make it fit the entire head so all valves can be done at the same time. Then PM me with a price for one...

Yes, I've had better luck with the stock one, the thing is that it doesn't have range for spring removal as it comes, there is a way to extend it, it doesnt have the handle and is easier for #7 & #8.

I did not think of an entire plate but great idea (i like the way you think lol).

I was going to make one to do both intake and exhaust at once tho.. I will tinker with both ideas but think it will be less time consuming for me to make one to do the three at once vs the whole head

If I can make one within reason I will make you one. Had I just sent Chevy the damn heads that I had already addressed to him I would not be in this damn situation to begin with lol. I also emailed Alex (908ssp) to see if he would be interested in making one. He is far more talented at that stuff then i am although I am sure I could knock one out

All it takes is a threaded coupler and a bolt. IIRC they need to be 1/2-20 thread pitch. I've used both the Ford tool and Freedom Racing and prefer the FR version. At first I couldn't figure it out but once I realized that it has to be adjusted during every use things started moving along nicely.

Looks like it will be pretty simple to make a tool to do them all at once. The nice thing about it is you will be able to do these pretty easy with the heads still on the car. That is nice if you need to freshen up the springs down the road or replace any that fail. Should have something by next weekend depending on my work schedule and if I can get access to a Bridgeport

Yup. Well, similar I suppose. Mine was a quite a bit more expensive but not harbor freight quality either.. I have attachments for 21, 23 and 25mm retainers which is nice. Stock is 21mm iirc, and my manley titanium are 25mm so glad I had a couple different sizes

The only thing about these type of tools is you must have the head off to use them. I want to build one similar to the thing I posted in the beginning of the thread only for a 3v, and one to do all them at once.. Will be able to install them with the heads bolted to the block if using compressed air to keep the valves from dropping when re-installing the springs

Does that work pretty well? I have the heads off now and need something cheaper than the damn $200 Freedom racing

Yes they work great provided you have the heads off. The part on the end is steel so it is wide open. Makes it real easy to put the locks on the valve stem. Just use some lithium grease or assembly lube on the keepers so they will stick to your small screw driver long enough to position them on the valve. Then just unscrew the tool. viola..

I also have the freedom tool. Don't like it much at all. IMO was not designed for installing springs. Works ok for removing followers I suppose once you get the first few out of the way and develop a rythm. The freedom tool is just plain awkward imo. Well built and good materials which is why it cost so much. In the end I would not be without it for most jobs like cam swap etc

In your case,, buy one of the clamp style tools. You "can" make your own but they are a pita to make work well like the one I posted above. I love the damn thing (one I posted.. not the one I made lol).. but again, heads have to be off. I will be replacing my springs every season and want to be able to replace them without pulling the heads

Cant remember but I will look it up in the morning (my morning is around 2pm lol). I will measure the retainer also if you have stock. The fitings alone for the retainer (open piece that compresses the spring). If you have to buy them individually they are over $50 each. I think this tool I have is around $150 but you can get a cheaper one if you need
